The 4.9 rating is highly deserved, one of the best places I have eaten at in recent years. The carnitas are on another level, and the salsa and guacamole are perfect. One visit, and I know I'm gonna be a regular. Will hopefully update this as I try more of the menu. Only flaws are the lack of bathroom on site and the limited parking (there seems to be adequate street parking, but I got lucky today/beat the rush).
Ratings so far:
Red salsa: 5/5 the salsa I've always wanted. Tangy like a salsa verde, but with a slightly deeper flavor and the perfect amount of heat.
Green salsa: 4/5 a great solid green salsa. Upstaged by the red, but great for those who don't like the heat.
Guacamole: 5/5, the first Guac I've actually wanted. Normally, I find Guac just "okay" and don't really eat it unless it comes with the order. I will probably be ordering a side to snack on at home later with future visits.
Al pastor: 4.5/5 wonderful al pastor. Could actually taste the sweetness of the pineapple in it, and it seems that some have been chopped up and mixed with the meat in the tacos. Usually my go-to at most places but....
Carnitas: 5/5. Only had carnitas this good at dedicated carnitas places like Carnitas El Rey in Oxnard, and in terms of flavor, Benny's has them matched if not beaten. Juicy and rich, I don't know if you guys use organ meats like the stomach that normally make or break good carnitas, but it taste like the places that do. Favorite filling/protein by far as of writing.
Rice: 4/5 great rice, very flavorful, great texture. Not sure if I want more veggies in it, but they're the perfect size and taste wonderful.
Pinto Beans: 3.5/5 take this rating with a grain of salt for now. Everything else was so good in comparison I'm not sure I'm being completely objective. The beans are good, lots of cheese, good texture and flavor. With a ~3 being "average" these beans still easily beat much of the compition. Throughly enjoyed them, but they were still pinto beans. Nothing amazing but definitely above average. Excited to try them in a bean burrito in one of my future visits. Would definitely like to know if you guys use lard or other pork products in them, however, for my vegetarian/ red meat...
Read moreI recently visited Benny's Tacos and tried the Trio Burrito and Carne Asada Quesadilla, and I must say, the homemade tortillas stole the show!
The Trio Burrito, filled with Pinto beans and two cheeses, was a delightful surprise. The combination of flavors was rich and satisfying, with the salsas adding a unique, spicy kick that paired perfectly with the creamy cheeses. The Carne Asada Quesadilla was equally impressive, with tender, juicy meat and just the right amount of cheese, all encased in those delicious homemade tortillas.
The tortillas were soft and had that authentic, freshly-made taste that you can't find just anywhere. They added an extra layer of authenticity and flavor to the meal, making every bite more enjoyable.
On top of the great food, the service was outstanding. Paola and Aldo were amazing—friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect. Their hospitality really added to the overall experience.
Overall, Benny's Tacos delivers on both quality and taste, and with service as excellent as Paola and Aldo's, it's a place I would...
Read moreLove the grilled fish tacos! And the aioli that comes with. Tried the California burrito with chicken last week and will be ordering again - delicious and filling. Trying the Breakfast burrito with tater tots today.
I didn’t give 5 stars only bc the salsas are too spicy for us and the chips could be lighter (sometimes uneven and over-fried). The service has been impeccable, especially so from the gentleman who manages. We try to remember to doublecheck what comes with what bc the line cooks don’t always seem sure. Again, the manager has been great.
I didn’t know what to put regarding atmosphere bc it’s kinda beside the point. It’s primarily a take-out place with a few outside tables at a busy intersection.
UPDATE: the manager recommended freshly made chunky tomato salsa instead of their red or green salsas. It was very good. The Breakfast burrito was very good as well. I would have liked a little more egg and tator tots and less black beans, but it was...
