Read moreCame to celebrate an anniversary and made reservations on open table, other places read my notes and accommodate, but this place did not unfortunately.
Ambiance: 10/10 Just stunning! This is the PERFECT place for that dim, candlelit feel for a romantic date. The interior is beautiful with the trees and the string lights. The two bathrooms are very cute, warm and personable. They definitely should invest in a way for the noise of the patrons to not ruin the mood. The noise level is excessively loud so if you want something intimate, this place is not it. The loudness of it all didn’t bother me, but for others it might. Everything is very clean and well taken care of.
Food: 9/10 I tried escargot for the first time and it wasn’t what I expected, but in a good way. The salad was fresh and the salmon was cooked and seasoned to perfection! For the price of it all, I just expected slightly more.
Service: 5/10 I’m not sure how to take how the hostess treated us very.. nonchalantly. I told her we were 45-mins early for our reservation and offered to wait at the bar if that helped her. It wasn’t super busy, but there were many people who were already seated. She said ok and we sat at the bar. It took over 10-mins for us to even be acknowledged, another 5-mins or so to receive water, and by the time we finally were offered drinks our reservation time was approaching. As the hostess was just standing at her station and hadn’t acknowledged us at all, I asked her if we were still able to get a seat. She began to lead me away from the area I requested in the open table note and asked if it was possibly to sit under the area with the tree and string lights. She did accommodate and the space was quite small and very close to other 2-seaters. I also had requested a desert to be brought out in the end with happy anniversary written on it, but nothing was brought. A table next to us received something similar for a birthday. I was very disappointed as I’ve used open table many times before and my notes are always read and accommodated if possible, substituting for other things when possible. Our server also was not very knowledgeable of the menu, and wasn’t very attentive to our table like he was to others. Overall the service was the biggest disappointment of our anniversary night.
Though I did enjoy the ambiance of the place and the food was very fresh and made well, the service will make me think twice...
Read moreA friend recommended TLD because it was her favorite neighborhood joint when she lived in LA years ago, so I booked an 8:30res for 1 at the bar on a Friday night and felt lucky to get a reservation at a decent restaurant prior to my red-eye flight home. Because the job that brought me to LA was in Orange Co and I'm not from the area, I left cut my time in OC to ensure I'd arrive at TLD in time to make my reservation. I found a parking spot around 8, checked in acknowledging I was early, and had a Four Pepper mescal drink that was outstanding and made me think the grilled octopus and grilled asparagus - I'd had a big lunch - would be perfect before my flight home.
I was told that as I'd arrived early, I'd have to wait for the couple who'd just ordered dessert to leave if I wanted to be seated early. I was told I could sit at the lone four-top outside the bar, order a drink, and wait for this couple to leave before being seated.
I did not mind being asked to wait at the four-top outside the restaurant as I was able to drink a cocktail. I didn't mind when I was asked to leave the four-top when the party that reserved it had arrived and, especially, because I was able to stand next to the valet stand and finish the drink. While standing with my 4 pepper cocktail (which is just so very, very beautiful), I didn't spend much thought on the solo woman who approached the doorman saying she had an 8:30 reservation at the bar. I was thankful when, at 8:50, I was, finally, seated at the bar...in the corner.
Then I looked across the bar and noticed that the woman who said she had an 8:30 for 1 was seated and had a cocktail and a starter.
On two occasions, a short-haired, blonde server of yours exited your restaurant, looked at me, ignored me, and went about whatever her business is, and even though she served my drink, this other person who arrived 20 minutes after I did was seated and served.
When, finally, I was seated at the bar at 8:50 for my 8:30 reservation I looked across from me and noticed I'd been not only forgotten, but seemingly ignored and dismissed, I told the woman who stands at reception I was leaving.
She didn't ask me to pay for my cocktail. And I "forgot" to remind her about it.
I had a flight to catch. I gave up other - and, clearly better, options. Your service is a...
