Blackwood Coffee Bar — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Overpriced and underwhelming. For an influencer, it might be good spot for ambiance. For a regular coffee goer who wanted to support a small business, I was disappointed to pay $7 for a cold brew that tasted both burnt and acidic. For options to flavor the cold brew, I was given 2 options of syrups only (though there are reviews of unique flavors from previous customers). Very basic menu, too bad the quality wasn't there. The sign at the door listing all underrepresented communities as "accepted people" should've been the give away of the pretention I was going to experience. If you're advertising that acceptance, I feel you're just capitalizing on the underrepresented. Wouldn't recommend unless you're looking for a place to work on your laptop.

Edit: Came back March 2023 to see if maybe their espresso is better than their cold brew. Ordered a lavender honey latte and it tasted nothing like lavender or honey and the color of the drink was dark brown. I've never seen a latte this dark. Either they gave me the wrong order despite being the only person that ordered or they just have fantastically bad coffee. Would not recommend anyone to come here, especially at this price point. I came in mid-morning, place was busy but not full. Placed my order for breakfast, coffee, danish and took a seat. Now seeing people after me get their orders, I returned to ask about my order. I waited at the counter until someone finally came to ask what I needed. Mind you at this time there weren’t any customers in line but me. I explained the situation, saw them return to kitchen and then say it will be right out. In the meantime I go back to my seat. Drink my coffee and have the danish. After waiting another 10mins, which by now had totalled a 25 minutes, I ask again. This time the staff appears annoyed at my inquiry. Waves me off to someone behind them to deal with. So I ask them and give my order number. Finally after 33 minutes from ordering get my breakfast. Had the coffee been excellent, the time may of passed quickly. If the staff had at least apologised for the wait then this post wouldn’t have been so long and rating so low. Not a good visit and I’m understand bad days happen but when you make a mistake at least apologise in the moment. I can’t get past the service to offer any review...

Me and my friend came in to get coffee at 3 pm on the dot. That’s when they close, so it’s definitely on us for not checking and just barging in last moment. As we opened the door the barista said they were only serving drip coffee and cold brew at the time which was fine by us. Would be even better if she smiled, said hello or didn’t look irritated. My hot drip coffee for $5 was lukewarm and when I asked her if she could add a bit more of hot coffee she said that was the best she could do because they were closing. That’s when we realized they were closing and her face made sense. My friend’s cold brew with oat milk was ok, neither tasty nor awful. Again, it’s on us for coming in the last moment but the attitude of the barista was definitely not appreciated as well as the quality of the drinks. Maybe don’t serve the last drops of the pot, just say you’re closed. The place looks really nice and I’m not sure if experience earlier in the day would be better. Not gonna be tempted to check on that...
