Went for the first time. When we walked in, i asked for a table for 3 and the man said take any booth in the bar. Great! We go to the bar and are the only party there. We are hanging out, conversing, waiting for someone to come over. We wait about 10 minutes and more parties begin to fill the remaining booths. Almost as soon as the other parties sit, a server comes right over with chips, water, salt and pepper for all tables, menus, wipes all of their tables down. The full deal.
We are still sitting at this booth, the first party to enter the bar, still waiting for any of these amenities that other parties around us have received, without request. We have no silverware, table still dirty, no water, no salt and pepper, etc etc. A man walks out with more chips and serves a few other tables around us, all the while staring dead at us. At this point, i am unsure if we are being purposely ignored because of who we are and what we look like, but i say nothing.
Finally a man approaches and says “do you need menus”? I say “yes please, we need the same services as all the other tables around us have”.
Gets menus, finally asks us if we want drinks. Walks away for another 10 minutes. All the while the tables around us are being treated to water refills, fast service, etc.
We never received water, or even asked if we wanted water. Table was never wiped. Approaching our table, the service made us feel as if we were trash. A separate man finally came and basically threw chips on the table, while the first man continued to serve all tables around us except us.
I ordered a quesadilla because i wasnt that hungry, it said it came with grilled veggies, cheese and meat. I choose chicken, and received just a boat load of cheese and chicken, no veggies. I barely ate it because it was just a sickening amount of cheese. Not sure if that was done accidentally or what, but it was not good.
There may have even been a manager sitting behind us most of the time, i am not 100% sure. But there was a woman who was going through paperwork, who if she was a manager, she let this poor service happen.
I have some questions and uncertainty about why we in particular were singled out. Maybe its how we look, I cant say. But compared to the other parties around us who received the basics of what you would come to expect from a restaurant, almost right away; we sat as the first party seated and waited for those same things. A hello. A menu. Water. Maybe wipe down the table. Chips and salsa in this case. Basically do for our table as we have seen you do to every table around us that entered the building well after us.
Id love to reenter and have a better experience and feel that El Coyote wanted us in that booth. As opposed to feeling like they would rather have anyone but us in...
Read moreGreat food, drinks and atmosphere. This was my first visit to El Coyote Mexican Restaurant. I understand it been there for one hundred years! Wow... You drive up to the old world style building with a fairly small parking lot where a sign reads "valet parking" but there were no attendants there so we parked ourselves which wasn't a problem. The building looks like any other fairly old building but when you walk up to the entrance, that look quickly changes. I instantly got this feeling of entering a movie set. There was Mexican decor all over as we were lead by the host and entered the arches leading to the quant little dining area. The restaurant was neat and very clean. We were seated in a comfortable booth and our waitress immediately came to take our drink order. She was very sweet and friendly. Definitely service with a smile.😃 She instructed us on how to scan the code which was on the table to pull up the menu. I pretty sure that was because of Covid. A waiter came a placed chips and two kinds of salsa on our table and our drinks came in minutes. We ordered Cadillac Margaretas. And they were pretty strong. There was so much to look at as far as the decor. There were stain glass 🦜 hanging from the ceiling as well as beautiful artwork throughout the dining area. The waitress came fairly quickly to take our order. I ordered s shredded beef burrito 🌯, wet with beans and rice on the side. It was delicious. Not quite as big as I expected it to be but still, very tasty. Because of the drinks, (i had two and my boyfriend had three), the total came to a little over a hundred dollars. Definitely worth it. As we left, we cracked a few jokes with the waitress and thanked her for the great service. Leaving through the main entrance, I had to take a video of all the pictures of all the celebrities who have visited El Coyote's at one time or another. Pictures of Cuba Gooding Jr., Aretha Franklin, Edward James Almost, Shirley Temple, Robin Williams, Ricardo Montebon, Marlon Wayan, Susan Sarandon, Sheila E., and many others whom the host helpedus name. And as we left, the host thanks us for coming. It was a very pleasant experience. I would definitely recommend El Coyote to everyone.
Unfortunately, the pictures are on my other phone. Hopefully, I can upload them at...
Read moreI really hate writing negative reviews but I honestly had to give them one star just for the ambiance.
Last time I was here was several years ago. Expensive parking- valet parked my car supposedly.. I got a parking ticket ( car was parked in the alley) and valet didn’t notify me about the ticket. The $65.00 ticket went up to almost $300.00 and the valet company refused to pay it. I found out when I went to register my car. That really sucked! I was in grad school at the time and I literally ate top ramen for a month straight because I had to pay that ticket.
6/2/23 6:00 pm- not very busy. Where was the service? I haven’t eaten here in easily 10 years and wasn’t crazy about the idea, but for someone to have the Hollywood experience, it was worth it.
Met a friend who is visiting from Ireland who wanted Mexican food he could walk to from where he was staying as he didn’t have transportation. El Coyote was just a 5 minute walk, so we agreed to meet there.
Sat at the booth for 20 minutes before someone came over and said they would take our order soon. Waited another 15 minutes for them to find a waiter and they finally took our drink and food order. Food came out at a reasonable time.
Food and margaritas bland and tasteless. I don’t think my margarita had any alcohol in it. My partner ordered an enchilada and besides the rice and beans covered in sauce- we can’t figure out if they are trying to fool us into thinking we got an enchilada. 2 bites of beef and a very small tortilla. I had the Chile rellano- this Chile rellano was even worse than the one I had in Anniston Alabama. What are they pulling here? Got food poisoning. This is a see and be seen Hollywood type restaurant but save the money and go to Casa Vega- same scene, there are really celebrities who eat there and better food and drinks and less expensive. It may be an LA Institution, but it just keeps going downhill. I honestly thought it was going to be better this time and now I am certain this is the LAST time I will...
