Starting this off with that had we received an apology AT ALL I would not be making this review. PS ik I sound like a Karen & that this is an absurdly long review i'm sorry lol. My bf & I made a res here for Valentine's the month before, an 8:30pm table for two. Arrived at 8:25pm, we checked in & prepped to wait. Immediately noticed there was a delay, there were probs 5 other couples with 8:30 res' who were also not being sat. 15 minutes goes by, then another, then another. I overheard a man walk up to the host & inquire about the wait, he & his date had an 8:45pm res. Host explained he was still trying to seat the 8:30 tables but that he'd get them in asap. Another 10 mins goes by, maybe one 8:30 gets sat, then this 8:45 table gets sat. No doubt he paid him to cut, but on a night where everyone is paying the same amount for a pre-set course meal, would've expected a bit more professionalism from the host. At 9:30 we were sat. An hour wait for a reservation. We weren't sat until we inquired w the host. Before being sat they had began to bring out glasses of Prosecco for the wait. Not kidding, EVERY couple received these besides my bf & I. Our server approached us about 15 mins after we sat, having an attitude before a word came out of our mouths. "You want water?" We ofc said yes and waited another 10 mins. When he came back with the water, we asked politely if we were able to receive the Prosecco other tables had received for the wait, as we never got that before sitting, "I can't just GIVE you Prosecco?? I would have to ask, like that's not something you can just get," then sighed & said he'd ask. We sat there in silence because we were so shocked at his reaction. Thankfully, who I presume was the sommelier, kindly brought us out the Prosecco & very kindly volunteered moving a heater next to our table as he could tell I was cold. He was the only person who was genuinely kind the entire night. One thing to note before returning to our issues with the server, we noticed that the "bread" we received was literally crackers & unlike any of the other bread baskets other tables had received, which were full loaves of Italian bread, while our basket had crisp, paper-like focaccia crackers, for the money we were paying it just seemed to add insult to injury. Server came back to the table to take our order, asked if we were ready, my bf asked if he was taking everything now, aka drinks & food, & the server, condescendingly stated "Yes, food. its a three course meal. you have to put everything in now, I can't just come back and take your order multiple times." I stated that we were hoping to put in a bottle of wine with our order with our food. (not wanting to be lectured on how to order, as we're not idiots). I'll say this- the food here was great. Each course was delicious. BUT, there was a 45 min wait in-between courses. During which, unprompted, our server came to our table, & began to lecture us on how we should be understanding bc it's a holiday & obviously busy, that the kitchen is overwhelmed & we should just enjoy each other's company. Idk why he told us this, we did nothing to prompt this, just sat there talking? Just weird. I can't stress how unwelcoming & snobby this server was. I don't know why he hated us so much for simply being there, it was bizarre. Bc we were a younger & soft-spoken couple he probs thought he could treat us however, but considering the fact that we were paying just as much as any other table, with a bill over $400, you would've thought we deserved a bit of decency. I previously worked in the food service industry for years, I understand the nature of holiday service & that things happen, but to immediately put blame on customers, especially those who made reservations, blows my mind. All in all, we were the last table in the restaurant, not signing our bill until after midnight. THANK GOD we hadn't had plans after dinner. Idk what prompted this treatment, besides the Prosecco request, we didn't say or do anything out of the ordinary. Btw, no discount or apology...
Read moreI reluctantly was going to give this restaurant a second chance after they reached out to me following a previous night there, but I will definitely not be going back! Last Wednesday, we celebrated my husband's 40th birthday at Angelini Osteria. I made reservations 3 weeks in advance, and included that we would be celebrating his big birthday. By the way, this was his ACTUAL birth day! When we arrived we were offered to choose our table - nice of them. My husband and I walked over to the table, and before I could even hang my purse, we were already being asked by one of the waiters what we would like to drink. This set the stage for the rest of our evening... Being rushed through the entire meal. We brought our own bottle of wine, which we had been aging for this special birthday and why we picked this restaurant - great Italian food which pairs well with a bold red wine. We were charged $30 to open the bottle of wine. Ok... We started the meal with the burrata... Meh. Nothing special. For dinner, I selected the veal shank pasta and my husband ordered the pumpkin ravioli. Again... Meh. There were two waiters "assigned" to our table, so they asked us the same questions, each, twice & clearly weren't communicating with each other. My husband and I couldn't even carry on a full conversation without being interrupted by the two of them. After we finished our boring food, one waiter came over & said "I hear we are celebrating a birthday, can I interest you in a dessert?". My husband ordered an affogato, they brought out a candle & he made his wish. The affagato was good. They also charged us for this dessert (not expecting free items, but it would have been a nice gesture). From the time we were seated, to the time the check was presented to us... We spent 38 minutes at Angelini Osteria. Wow! Talk about a rushed through dinner on a VERY special night. My husband and I were so disappointed, what a let down of a restaurant - food and service. I wrote in their comment card a similar, yet shorter, explanation of our disappointment, not expecting it to go anywhere. However, the next morning (one week ago) I received a phone call from the manager greatly apologizing for our experience and wanting to make it up to us. She took down my email address, and promised a gift card in my inbox and an invitation to be their guest for another visit. I have yet to receive anything... After the fact, I've heard of two other similar experiences from this restaurant. I only wish I would have known before wasting my husband's birthday here. *Just a side note - My mother manages a popular restaurant in the San Fernando Valley, and agrees that I should have received something within 24-48 hours, so giving them one week to contact us is...
Read moreI would like to start off by saying that there are a lot of good things to say about this restaurant, and it definitely exceeded my expectations, by a surprising number. I came here for Mother’s Day with my entire family which was actually a perfect place for Mother’s Day. My first impressions is that the layout of the restraint is very unique, and unlike anything I have seen in a while. My only real complaint was the tables, it wasn’t horrible it was just a little small, especially since I came here with 8 people. It just felt a little compact. In terms of cleanliness, the restaurant does a very good job, as it also manages to create a very nice and minimalist setup which I enjoy. When me and my family was seated I checked the menu and I was surprised to see a menu for Mother’s Day. It wasn’t a limited time menu rather a recommendation for what to get in a Mother’s Day setting. I enjoyed it quite a bit, the majority of what I ordered was on that menu so if you decide to come here on Mother’s Day I recommend utilizing that feature. I decided to order Grilled Salmon with roasted potato’s, margarita pizza, and I shared some other stuff with my family. Sitting there felt very nice, I noticed the atmosphere really matched the cuisine very well. The service was also very good, I noticed the waiter had a surprising amount of personality and for me it felt like the waiter enjoyed his job. The first thing that came surprisingly quick was the pizza. The pizza was relatively flat which I actually enjoyed. It was super light and the bread had a very nice taste. There was also a complimentary bowl of flat bread similar to that of the pizza which also exceeded my expectations. It had a nice garlic-like spice which was super unique and tasted very good. The salmon I ordered was very good, in fact one of the best I have had recently. I did have some food I did share like Alfredo pasta and this unusual bowl fried rice shaped like a sphere that I enjoyed. Overall. The food here was very good and my expectations were high and exceeded my expectations. I personally think this was a very good restaurant and near perfect. Overall I rate this around a 4.6/5. I totally recommend coming here for Mother’s Day. Also it was pretty affordable if you care...
