My best friend and I have started frequenting Mad Lab Hollywood anywhere from 3-5 days a week over the past few months. It stole our hearts with the innovative coffee concoctions like the summer specialty lime chronic, the sloe gin fizz(a peach flavor), and the hopefully more permanent lavender espresso tonic. For the winter they have a cranberry rosemary flavor that tastes like thanksgiving in a coffee.
They outsource their baked goods to a local bakery (that I'm forgetting the name of) and they often sell out before we arrive at 10/11am. If you get the chance to try something definitely do, it is worth the splurge.
As for the classic coffee options they take excellent care in pulling well-balanced delicious shots of espresso. They understand the nuance of milk textures with both dairy and alternative milk options which for me, is very important. There's little more disappointing than getting a latte with burnt over-aerated milk and then paying an arm and a leg for it. The quality is consistant across all the baristas.
And speaking of the baristas! The most important part! They are beyond wonderful. They are half the reason we continue to go. Each and every employee we have encountered is nothing but helpful, enthusiastic, and friendly. I seldom meet baristas who are so genuinely kind. Everyone is knowledgable about coffee and shows they care about your experience recommending items, offering to make drinks perfect no matter what every time, even just asking about our days. They take the time to remember names and orders of regulars and make my friend and I feel at home. We know Meredith has left but she was an awesome barista as well as Yi (excuse me if I spell it wrong) who is one of the nicest service industry people I've ever met. The manager has a good eye for great employees.
The pricing is consistent with competing coffee shops in the area and is honestly well worth it. You can rest assured they are using the best ingredients and maintain a high level of quality control to ensure customer satisfaction.
Overall 13/10 would recommend this shop to anyone living or visiting the...
Read moreMad Lab is a very charming hole on the wall coffee joint with some pretty unique beverage selections. I had the Pulp Figtion given my love of Fig Newtons and puns. I also ordered a plain croissant. The croissant was ok but hey that's what they call a croissant in Paris so fair enough.
The Pulp Figtion was a quality iced coffee with notes of fig but also fruitier undertones closer to blueberry. The lady behind the counter was gracious and offered to replace it if I didn't like it (I have a hard rule against things back). But this drink was a delightful surprise.
One last note about this little gem is that a few feet away is a street food stand owned by a Ms. Yolanda Martinez. I asked for an egg sandwich but her gracious husband offered to pack it with cheddar and hashbrowns on a buttery croissant. That big sandwich was 8 dollars! That was easily one of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had in a while, I highly HIGHLY recommend you check them out as well. So great coffee, great breakfast stand nearby, come by and try it...
Read moreAs an adult on the autism spectrum, my experience here was disheartening. My eardrums and bodily space were violated when walking up to the order window of this establishment. Music is playing so loud — that it hurt my ears and dis-regulated my nervous system. I tried telling the cashier and they gave me attitude - saying “there is nothing they could do” …hmm how about just turning down the volume? I also tried to educate the cashier explaining to him how volume at that level is really problematic for people with disabilities, and he looked at me like I was crazy.
Not only does it make this establishment NOT handicapped accessible — I’m writing this review so that hopefully no other person has to experience the pain of a) feeling violated by noise and b) having a service person reject a basic human need.
To the owner- I hope you train yourself and your staff on how to serve the public which includes people with disabilities - some of which are visible and some which are not.
Would give 0 stars for...
