Great atmosphere and decor. And super friendly staff! However, food is below mid 🫠 we got two of the sushi dishes (spicy salmon and tempura) and didn't finish them 🤣 overuse of avocado and for the salmon... Drenched in sauce. So that's either due to 1) inexperience of the cook or 2) low quality fish 🫠 Or both. Who's to say 🤷🏽♀️we also got the chicken karaage and... The batter was falling off the chicken and lacked overall flavor 😕and if the simplest of dishes can be mishandled, I can only guess the rest of the menu.
I tried the matcha strawberry Choco cookie, that was good. Also bought some matcha powder since it's from the owners family farm in Japan. Haven't tried that out yet, but I have high hopes.
Looking at other reviews, I probably should've stuck with the alcohol and pastries.
Now don't get me wrong, if you like mid tasting food, this is probably the go to spot. But IMO the flavors were watered down. I said what I said 🤣 again no hate, just a random opinion, from a random stranger, in the sea of millions.
And I'd try this place again, but maybe focus on strictly the vegan/vegetarian options since I've heard good things...
Read moreThe owner treated me so badly yesterday that I couldn't fall asleep last night until really late, because I was shocked at how mean and nasty the owner was. Yesterday was the 4th time I went to Yuko's Kitchen, as a paying customer, and each time I had seen the owner and I was extremely polite and nice and friendly to her. The owner has never been very nice, but yesterday she actually told me to leave her cafe, after I paid for my order and was served my order by a waitress, who also had bad vibes coming from her. The reason Yuko came to my table as I was about to start eating what I paid for, was because she saw that I had brought a small tea with me. I'm picky with teas, so I brought in my own tea, which I always do everywhere. The owner, Yuko, aggressively approached me at the table I was sitting and said she saw the tea, and she told me to leave! They lost my business forever, and I'm in that neighborhood all the time. I also regularly interact with lots of people who are in that neighborhood and I will be directing them to go to other places to...
Read moreI always walk by this place, today I finally decided to try it. Wow I definitely wasn't disappointed! I haven't been satisfied with any other meal in the neighborhood as much as I am with this restaurant. The beef plate was about $16.50. It was so much food that I couldn't finish it; beef over rice, two pieces of spicy salmon crispy rice, a big tasty salad (I love that they didn't skimp on the smelt egg), a few pieces of cookies and a small soup!! The plate was a larger portion, tastier, fresher, and a much better deal most of the other meals that I buy in the same area for $20/$25. I can't believe I haven't been coming here this whole time! I'll definitely be back! Thank you Yuko Kitchen for being a fresh, tasty, healthy, and affordable option in DTLA!
Also, its got a hipster-esque vibe with the plants, art, and handwritten writing, but I definitely noticed a cooler/fresher atmosphere in the restaurant and I don't doubt that it's the all plants and the large...
