This was a pretty cool Mexican restaurant. Didn't even know about it until recently. But they make good tacos. They have a nice mix of onions, peppers, sauce, and whatever meat or protein you choose. I tried the shrimp tacos and a mushroom taco. Mushroom was pretty good, but the shrimp kinda blew it out of the water. Lol. The workers are nice and they have more options than I was expecting from the original menu (including burritos and quesadillas). The agua fresca was good. I had melon. The tacos will run you a little over $3 per taco, and they're street-sized. So, if you can eat, you might end up spending around $20 for one person if you want to get full off of tasty little tacos. The only real issue was the bathroom. Because it's in a shared space with other shops and restaurants, there is only one bathroom in the center of that space and you may have to wait for the security guard to circle back around to the restroom so he can let you in. You'll also want to keep your receipt handy to show him just in case. Paying customers only. I can't be too surprised though. It is DTLA, which is surrounded by homeless people. So, they're probably trying to prevent squatters or anyone using up limited resources (running water) during all of the economy instability. Gotta protect your assets and whatnot, right? Anywho, this is a good spot for Mexican food. Slightly larger portions for the tacos would be great and probably turn my rating into a 5-star rating. Overall, I'd recommend trying it if you haven't. I think you'll be...

It's not the traditional mexican taco, but they have homemade corn tortillas that are a bit on the thick side. They top them with -usually- braised meats with savory flavors and meaty sauces. If it's your first time, consider trying their sampler than includes 6 mini tacos.
Top off your meal with amazing Horchata and agua frescas made fresh daily and ladled into large cups. They have a signature drink called the Armando Palmero, which astute readers catch the play on words as a Mexican version of an Arnold Palmer in which they mix Jamaica (pronounced: ha-my-kah and not to be confused with the island nation) and Lemonade. Yum! Those wanting a little afternoon pick-me-up can opt for the Horchata mixed with cold brew coffee (Stumptown).
There's also a location in Echo Park, but this one is just as good. Get there before 12:00 or you will meet a line that goes out the door. Don't worry, as they are pretty fast at getting your order and even faster at serving it up.
The area in Downtown is in a transition and, as such, can have some unsavory people hanging about. But, if you're in Downtown LA, I'm sure you're prepared for a little...
Read moreWe just left fight night and Eminem concert at BMO Stadium and were so hungry. My friend recommended this place and said they had the best tacos so we decided to try it. Once we got out of the car the smell of urine and homeless people was all around us. Normally that's a deterrent for me, but it is dtla and it was late so not many options.
Walking in you can tell it was filled with customers who just came from a late night event. The staff was very friendly and some didn't really speak English.
I got 2 orders of the taco sampler for me and my bf which included 1 steak picado taco, 1 bistek roja, 1 mole (I switched mine out for 1chuleta since I don't like mole), 1 tinga, 1 cochinita, and 1 chorizo. I also ordered ceviche and sangria. Everything was delicious! The tacos were really good along with the salsa they gave. They are small but filling. The sangria was definitely authentic and the ceviche was just ok, I could have done without that. I was still hungry and then ordered the Camerones tacos which were really good and bigger than the last tacos. I left really full but satisfied. Anytime I am in the area, I a coming back to this spot for cheap...
