When the Wolves 1st Opened we were able to go in to do a walk through. But this was our Newest Feast at the Wolves Downtown L.A! Yes, we totally pass this by on the street but when we do, we say to the Bouncer out Front. Nicest Man around! Make sure to say hello. 😉 He greeted us in, with a warm Welcome. We walked in and It was Open Seating. Now, the front of house was Open but the back seemed to be off limits. That wasnt going to stop us from eating there. 😏 After all we are Neighbors & can smell the great food from our Open windows in our apartment. 😅🤣 You know me, im all about the Architecture, and Artistic design of the building. Absolutely Elegant to the Eyes! Soft lighting with a Fun atmosphere. This is a spot of Music and conversation! While you enjoy the Vintage style of the Wolves, you can be sure the food is Just as Enjoyable. 😉 Try their Burger for example... Omg, best way to describe it is, a french dipped burger. Now you can ask for a extra toasted bun. But if you Wait to eat it the juices from the Patty will gently soak the bun but still taste 100% Delicious. Im not into soggy burgers, but this Burger had one absorbed bun and tasted deliciousness and savory without the Soggy effect. 🥲🥲🥲 now ours came with a double patty and caramelized sautéed Sherry onions. ❤️ good Lord. 🙏 Stole my heart was the flavoring and the Cheese!!! Ohh i had NO COMPLAINTS. See, ive had burgers before, but this one seals the deal for me. 😌 think this will be my New Burger go to is, "The WOLVES BURGER." Umm hell yeah. I usually take the buns off my burger and bipass the bread, but not with the Brioche Bun they're serving it on. Mmmm yummmy.
Need to give a Big shout out to Our servers. Meagann & the Gentleman who i appoligize did not get his name because i didn't want to disrupt him, he was helping a packed bar. I noticed he was a great server as well! I asked Meagann if she could bring me Cherries 🥰i love to add them to my soda. She came through right away with 3 on a toothpick. 😍She Won My Heart with pulling through! She stopped plenty of times to see how we were doing. We were somewhat speechless because food was definitely on our minds. Haha 😄 All we could say was IT'S GREAT! 😍 The fries... oh wow. So tasty. We had the Wolves Bread Pudding for dessert. 🤤 Very tasty. A Chocolate chip & raisin delight! VERY NICE TOUCH! Over All i loved the atmosphere. Very clean and great food smelling bar and nice ambience. I'd so take friends, family and Have a date here 😏 you may even Spot some Spirits Other than the ones at the bar. 🍸 😉 This is the spot! Cheers to all the hard workers at the Wolves! You guys go the distance, with a Dancing swing, and high energy customer service! 👌 We...
Read moreLast night I went with some friends I met on my weekend trip to DTLA to the bar and eatery, "The Wolves." I was drawn to it by the classic, turn-of-the-century interior and was even more impressed by the quality of the drinks and food. I had the good fortune of having a great bartender (Kari) whose father had grown up in Hawaii (which is where I grew up) and had a great old fashioned ($2 off for the happy hour menu) but then switched to a great pilsner from the Czech Republic and at $8, half the price of a cocktail (I'm more of a beer guy but had to have a cocktail in a place that celebrates them). I was able to find out about the history f the spot - the owners converted it from a print shop - ad almost everything they brought in - the glass ceiling panels are from a train station in Illionois and it is all dark wood paneling - I commented to one of the employees that it was like Westerminster Abbey was turned into a bar and they agreed. My dinner companions and I had a variety of items - the baguette with butter was nice - mainly because the butter was so good - and then we also had the olives in an olive oil and roasted garlic compote, with more bread (I highly recommend that one) - the cheese plate was okay - a great gooey stinkey cheese, a blue cheese and a hard one (probably a sheep's cheese) - we also had the mussels and fries - lovely mussels, nice and fat and fresh and the fries are the classic French shoestring ones - our favorite was the Croque sandwich - wich was laden with white sauce and toasted cheese and it was the best I have had - I would split it with two or three people as it is quite rich. Note, when there are a lot of people it does get loud but I liked that, while they have music, they don't play it to loud. If you are staying near the Grand Cental Market you can walk down or take the bus there (they open at 5 pm) - all-in-all a great experience with friendly wait staff - I look forward to going back next time I...
Read moreAh the Wolves. I finally was able to stop by after Puzzle Bar sadly closed in the OC a few years ago. (Could we pretty please bring an off-shoot of the Wolves to the OC?) I know I technically shouldn't compare the two (I loved Puzzle Bar's menu of whiskey drinks to anime/movie titles), but the Wolves is an elegant, fancy and gorgeous bar that is able to stand toe-to-toe against the nightlife scene around DTLA.
When you come into the Wolves, you're greeted by so much old-school pizzazz. The architecture and seating structure are terrific. The bar is large and wide with several rows of liquor sitting amongst each row. You can wait for the staff to take you to a table or sit at the bar. We were able to see the narrow staircase near the entrance and inquired if we could go up. And up we went (not as many steps as you may think) to a gorgeous viewing area of the entire bar area (not huge so if you're a pair, you should be cool).
Drink-wise, they pack a punch and are normally priced. We got the yuzu cocktail and blood orange ginger cocktail. They were both delicious and after a night of drinking before we got here, they were the only ones we had. The only note I have here is that I wish there were more options for drinks (That or we may have missed another menu?) We also were not checked on often being upstairs so do be mindful that you may have to go down to get your check.
Otherwise, during the summer days, I could imagine going out to their patio and looking out on the DTLA streets sipping a cocktail. It's something that isn't that common in DTLA (other than at a place like Perch higher up) and has a nice, Euro feel to it all.
Parking-wise, you're in for the usual DTLA battle - limited street parking and paid parking lots. I am too impatient and just go for whatever is nearby as long as it's not too pricey so pick your...
