I made a reservation on 11/2/2021 for 8:15pm. I arrived at the Omni Hotel at 7:55pm and I was greeted by the valet attend. He handed me a parking receipt and advised me to get it stamped before leaving the restaurant. If not, parking would cost me $27.
Since I was early, I decided to visit the Speak Easy and have a tasty beverage. The Speak Easy had a comfortable fee, amazing decor with plenty of seating, a bowling alley and I nice size bar that could seat about 8 people. I ordered an Old Fashion w/Maker's Mark. To my surprise, my glass arrived half full. The drink was just ok, nothing special but definitely not worth the $18.
After finishing my dixie cup size drink, I headed over to the dinning area to be seated. The host was really kind and professional and he walked me to my table upon my arrival to the host stand.
It took a little time for my waiter to arrive at the table to greet me. Maybe 8 minutes. Once he arrived, he walked me through the day's special.
I ordered another Old Fashion w/Maker's Mark, a caesar salad w/crumbled Blu cheese (on the side), Ribeye Pittsburgh seared medium and the Smashed potatoes. The salad took a little time to find its way to the table. The crumbled Blu cheese was not on the side and the caesar salad was just ok. Nothing special, more on the bland side.
Several minutes (20) went by and I began wondering where in the heck are they getting this Ribeye from. After about 25 minutes, the Ribeye arrived to the table along with the Smashed potatoes and a carrot so big it could have been entered into a food serving size contest.
The Ribeye was prepared PERFECTLY! Well seasoned , tender and juicy.
The Smashed potatoes arrived cold and they had an awful gravy taste to them. I informed my waiter but we went back and forth on what I was tasting (me) vs his explanation of how the Smashed potatoes are prepared. After trading a few barbs back and forth, he offered to replace my potatoes but I declined.
Those championship carrots had some type of maple glaze on them and they were.... Well, wasted.
I finished as much of my steak as I could and requested a to go container. My waiter sat the container on the table and he didn't even offer to box things up. While boxing up my left over steak, I was expecting to learn about the desserts of the day but I got nothing...
In summary: the Speak Easy is a nice comfortable alternative seating area but the drink prices are ridiculously over price for the pour you get. The restaurant dinning area was spacious but the room felt like a banquet hall that was set up for seating people to eat. Nothing special and not well decorated. The drink on the restaurant side was much better and larger in size. The bread was warm and pretty good, the salad was bland, the steak was awesome, the carrots were left on a plate and the potatoes were left to soak up the gravy or whatever they had in them.
The meal was a welcomed experience for my traditional dining places but the drinks, food the service; at those prices, it would be hard for...
Read moreThe food and service was great up until it was time to pay. We arrived as a party of 14 and informed the wait staff beforehand that we would need separate checks for the 8 separate parties. As we received our checks, there were several errors where the wrong items were charged to the wrong parties. That, to me, was no big deal as mistakes happen. Here is where it became unacceptable for me. After everyone had gotten their food they were unable to finish boxed up, I then asked for the same. I asked for a box and the waitress stated she would box it up for me. A few minutes later she returned with a bag and gave it to me. Later, when I got home I was surprised to find that the food I was given was NOT mine. To me this is unacceptable when not only did I wait til everyone else's food was boxed up before I asked, to avoid such a thing, but I paid $93 for 22oz prime rib bone-in that didn't even get to finish later when my appetite returned. This is a very nice place with a very professional staff and I should be able to trust that the food you offer to box up for me will actually be given back to me. At this type of establishment I should expect no mistakes with something as simple as this: returning the food I actually gave to you, not food from a whole other table - remember, everyone else at the table had received their bags already because I was the last one. I was thoroughly disappointed with this. I had no problem paying the $200 for my meal and it shouldn't have been a problem to do what YOU offered to do( I asked for a box, the waitress offered to box it up for me). I am in the food service industry myself so for an incident like this, the names of the servers are not important because this is not to get anyone in trouble or fired, but I want to point my comments directly to the manager because this is an opportunity for coaching. Bob's is too nice a place and I spent too much money to have to worry about an issue like this. If servers are boxing up unfinished meals themselves, please take the time to either properly train them in this area or establish a Quality Assurance filter to be sure stupid things like this don't happen. If there is a system where someone else other than the server is boxing up leftovers, please ensure that the necessary quality checks are in place to ensure people get THEIR food and not someone else's. Again... I paid $200 and only got to eat half of my meal because of this very careless mistake that should never happen. Not at a place like this. This doesn't even happen at Waffle House. Very...
Read moreBad experience from start to finish. Called to see if we could come a bit earlier than our 7:00 reservation and were told they didn’t have our reservation. Surprised, I asked if they had any openings and was told they had some “first come, first served” bar seating that was open if we came right away. We did, and were seated in the bar while noticing at least 6 empty tables in the restaurant. And, when we left almost two hours later, those tables were still empty. So, not sure why they made us sit in the bar, but if that had been the only issue, I wouldn’t have thought much of it. But, it got worse. I ordered the dinner special, “snapper and scallops with sweet potato risotto”. It came out and the fish was not cooked. The bottom half was cooked and the top half was translucent and actually cold to the touch. The server has mortified and took the plate back. In the meantime, I urged my husband to eat so his food would not get cold. My fish didn’t come, and didn’t come and didn’t come...it finally came after my husband was finished eating. I stuck my fork in the fish and it literally wouldn’t separate. Snapper is a firm fish, but this seemed odd, so I grabbed my knife and cut it. It was rubbery. Not edible. Made me wonder if the fish had been frozen and was now over-cooked. But why would a frozen piece of fish be the “special“? I don’t know if it was fresh or frozen, but it was awful. I just pushed my plate away and ate the leftovers from my husband’s plate. When the server came to clear the table she did not mention the completely full plate that I had not eaten. Poor form all around, Bob’s. I have never written a negative restaurant review, but you earned it. The only reason you got two stars is because my husband’s meal was good. Such a disappointment for a $200+ meal. There are a few exceptional steakhouses in Louisville; Bob’s is not...
