Good and fresh, but a bit overpriced for this sort of food unless it's happy hour. Food is good, but kind of up and down depending on the day and what you order. Quantity and consistency of quality should be better given the regular menu prices.
Pork burrito was seriously lacking meat, mostly only rice and beans. But I've had burritos there that were better. Can be kind of dry. Shrimp tacos are great and very flavorful! Veggie quesadilla was mostly corn falling out of it making a big mess and not much else, super disappointing. I didn't even expect it to have any corn in it at all, think they gave me the wrong one. Guac is fantastic! But it's like $8 for a medium size order with chips. Chips are made in house and really good, hot, sturdy, perfect amount of salt. Nothing is very spicy at all. House margs are meh but acceptable at happy hour prices, overpriced for the quantity and mix at their regular price. Neat special and seasonal items that are usually super tasty and unique, like butternut squash enchiladas or duck tacos. Little stingy with the pico and salsas, which you'll want.
Never had anything that tasted bad/that I would guve a bad flavor rating to, just can't predict what you're getting into, except that the guac will be droolworthy if you have the cash to blow on it. In fact, order your own and don't share it!
Once found busted pieces of the top of a hot sauce bottle in my nachos last summer, both big and small pieces. Not sure how that happens and then they were somehow so oblivious they served it anyhow. They brought out a new plate of nachos that they comped and some coupons to make up for it, but my stomach hurt like crazy the next 12 hours. That being said, when they aren't full of glass chunks and lids, the nachos are yummy.
They have gluten free and vegetarian options, and food kids would like.
I really want to like this place more, it's a great location and simple twist on the fast casual style Mexican inspired food idea, but they are so darned inconsistent. The food is good more often than not, but with the price of everything a buck or three more than comparable places and a stable core menu, I expect better quality every time and every item. And it's frustrating to order the same simple thing twice from their core menu and have it vary.
Go there for happy hour, they have good deals at fair prices then. Definitely get guacamole and try one of their seasonal specials! It's worth it during hh, have...
Read moreI ordered an al pastor quesadilla for take out and paid for the item with a credit card, after leaving I realized I was charged 15% gratuity. I understand that the gratuity options are on the top of the screen when completing the purchase, which is fine, and I think under the right circumstances I may have provided a tip (e.g. staying and eating there, maybe using the WiFi). My problem arises from the fact that the default option for paying (at least when I paid) was the 15% gratuity option, BY DEFAULT (meaning I didn't purposefully select a tip). Because I am unaccustomed to verifying whether or not I am being charged gratuity for every transaction that I participate in, I unknowingly paid for the tip. Literally every restaurant, coffee shop, brewery, etc that I have been to, in recent memory, has the default setting for tips as 0%. This modus operandi makes total sense, if you pay for your goods/service and feel the other party deserves a tip you can choose a value you see fit. What Pica's does is particularly troubling, especially because there is not a wait staff, just simply someone bringing food out to you. It is basically like a glorified chipotle. Really it is not that much different.
Even when you have a large party at a restaurant (e.g., a proper restaurant, you know, with a wait staff, someone who seats you, etc) even they typically explicitly say that gratuity will be added for a party of a certain size (usually ~15%). This is fine by me because this is standard practice in the industry.
At your restaurant I was automatically and unknowingly charged a tip (granted I could have specifically selected 0%) for basically the same level of service I receive at the drive through at McDonald's. If I would have paid with cash, do you think it would be ok for your staff to not return all of the change because I didn't explicitly state that I didn't want to provide a tip?
My suggestion is that you do what every other business is doing in this regard. Any default tip value beyond 0% looks beyond shady, deceptive, and greedy. I think you can agree that it is deceptive based on how businesses typically use that electronic pay pad. Please don't give me the, "oh well you should have read the pad before signing" bit. Come on man... use some common sense. I just expect people to operate their establishments' in a manner consistent with ethical...
Read moreUnless the food seriously diminished in quality, the majority of these reviews are from white people who haven't ever had a proper Latin meal.
The ambience is OK, the employees are friendly, but the food is barely servicable. I'm honestly not sure whether it wasn't enough seasoning, or that the flavor was never there to begin with.
You'd have a more "authentic" meal at Taco Bell, Costco, or Chipotle, for a fraction of the price.
Incredibly dissapointed, I had high hopes, do yourself a favor and find a family-owned and run restaurant. (Owner replied that it is)
EDIT I know it's really hard to take criticism, because we all inherently feel like we're doing the right thing. But eating at your restaurant made me feel cheated and scammed. Your chips are basically pita chips, your food is really quite bland, and your salsa (not the pico) is almost flavorless except for some heat. If a burrito wasn't $14, or Tacos weren't $12, I would give you more stars. At $20/person I expect GOOD food. Not a bland plate of ingredients. Perhaps I'm just a harsh critic, and my opinion is not indicative of the bulk of your customers. I'll let you and anyone else reading be the...
