During our weekend getaway to Louisville, my family and I were on the hunt for a local gem, something beyond the usual chain restaurant fare. We stumbled upon The Fish House & Grill, and let me tell you, it was a fantastic find that truly delivered a memorable dining experience.
From the moment we walked through the door, the staff exuded genuine warmth and friendliness. We instantly felt welcomed, like regulars rather than first-time visitors. This kind of hospitality sets the stage for a great meal, and The Fish House & Grill certainly followed through. The food was the star of the show. My husband opted for the fried mahi mahi with fries, and he raved about how fresh and perfectly cooked the fish was. The batter was crispy without being greasy, and the mahi mahi itself was flaky and flavorful. My daughter and I both chose the fried shrimp, with her selecting fries and me opting for rice. Our shrimp was equally delicious – plump, juicy, and seasoned impeccably.
Everything arrived at our table piping hot, a testament to the kitchen's attention to detail. It was truly seafood with soul, a comforting and satisfying meal that hit all the right notes.
To top off our delightful meal, we indulged in their desserts. The Oreo cake was a decadent treat, but the real standout was the Carrot Cake. You could absolutely tell it was homemade, boasting a moist and flavorful crumb and topped with an excellent whipped cream cheese frosting that was light, tangy, and utterly divine. It was the perfect sweet ending to a wonderful meal.
The Fish House & Grill is exactly the kind of local establishment that makes traveling worthwhile. It offers delicious, well-prepared food, a welcoming atmosphere, and clearly takes pride in what they do. If you're looking for a seafood experience in Louisville that goes beyond the ordinary and offers a taste of Southern hospitality, look no further. We will absolutely be making a return visit to The Fish House & Grill the next time...
Read moreI stopped by for brunch while in town for the afternoon. The owner was working the register, seemed quite friendly and personable. The dining areas were full of older couples and families probably just out of church considering it was a Sunday afternoon. From his conversation I gathered that this shop was an area institution. I ordered the cod sandwich with fries. I didn't want any pop but he gave me a cup for water anyway. It was self seating in arrangements. The food arrived hot and fresh within 7 minutes. Two substantial fried cod fillets on two slices of wheat bread with ample fries and a small cup of house made slaw. Honestly it was enough food for two people, I was quite full. The cod was perfectly cooked; crispy batter and fresh, juicy flakey fish inside. The fries were hot and fresh from the fry basket and even the slaw was tasty, although I'm not a huge fan of slaw in general. The tartar sauces, of which they offer a variety of flavors, ketchup, mustard and malt vinegar were all self serve. The owner's reasoning is that he "likes his sandwiches saucy" so why not allow his customers the same options. I tried the jalapeño and regular tartar sauces but I didn't enjoy the jalapeño type. For beverages, also self serve, they have soda fountains, sweet tea, coffee and water. They even have a coffee and chicory root blend which I imagine is for people who want coffee with less caffeine. I wonder if that's a Kentucky thing or unique to this shop, I've never seen it offered anywhere else. I tried the coffee and chicory, it tasted like regular coffee, very smooth. All said, if you're in the area and looking for a good, no frills fried fish meal for brunch consider the The Fish House, you won't be...
Read moreI was in Louisville, KY for a recital and goggled Best Fish Restaurants and this location came up. It was pretty busy. I asked one of the customers if this food spot was a good place to get fish. They said every Saturday they are here. I got excited and decided to give it a try. Walked in and it had New Orleans eclectic vibe. Cafe Beignet was a nice surprise as well.
I ordered a Fried Seafood Platter and three Beignets added Hush Puppies. The food looked like it was delectable. However, it was absolutely horrible. The fried shrimp was overcooked, hush puppies were not sweet and were dry! The fish it self was a very high quality fish and fresh but lacked seasoning. The clams and fries were decent. However the most deplorable was the old fried oysters. They were fried perfectly but were old oysters and inedible! I had to spit it out! It was something that shouldn’t be served! The Beignets were hollow and not soft doughy fresh goodness that we think of when we think of Beignets. They taste like they were cooked earlier in the day and warmed up and just added powdered sugar. Overall the customer service was good. They were pleasant and very nice staff. Atmosphere is very nice. I didn’t get to really enjoy the sweet tea because it wasn’t much left so I had to mix the unsweetened tea with it to get a full cup! Overall the restaurant sucked! If this is the best of Louisville, KY fish scene. I feel sorry...
