Recently, I had the pleasure of dining at Maya Asian Restaurant, a hidden gem specializing in Nepali cuisine. Being a vegetarian, I was thrilled with their extensive selection of meat-free dishes.
Our meal began with a delightful assortment of appetizers. The momos, both steamed and pan-fried, were bursting with fresh vegetables and perfectly seasoned. The pan-fried variety offered a nice textural contrast to the steamed ones. The samosa chat was a revelation - a symphony of textures and flavors. Crispy fried samosas were bathed in a tangy and creamy sauce, punctuated by the satisfying crunch of chickpeas and fresh vegetables.
For the main course, we opted for the thukpa, a comforting vegetable noodle soup. The clear broth was fragrant and flavorful, chock-full of tender vegetables and perfectly cooked noodles. It was the perfect balance of light and satisfying.
No Nepali meal is complete without a cup of chai, and Maya's did not disappoint. The rich, spiced tea was the perfect way to end our culinary adventure. It was warming, aromatic, and the perfect ending to a delightful exploration of Nepali flavors.
Overall, Maya Asian Restaurant offers a delicious and authentic taste of Nepal. The vegetarian options were plentiful and bursting with flavor, and the service was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a unique and satisfying...
Read moreI spent $70 here (unfortunately made the mistake of ordering an extra fried momo and thukpa as well). The overall experience was extremely disappointing.
The momo tasted as if it had been frozen, then rushed through boiling and frying. The meat filling was cold, the wrapper barely fried, and the bottom was soggy. The thukpa portion was surprisingly small, with soggy noodles, unpleasant-tasting chicken, and no onions or cilantro to balance the flavor.
The naan and butter chicken were no better. For $18, I received three small pieces of bread that were not naan — they also were cold and soggy. The butter chicken itself tasted artificial and lacked authenticity. For $18, the portion was small.
I had to throw the food away.
On a positive note, the ladies at the restaurant seemed kind, which made the experience slightly better — but sadly, the food quality does not match the price. I would not recommend...
Read moreReally, really good. I can’t say I’ve had Nepalese food before but this was a great introduction to it. I got something “safe” and easy to eat since I was on the road for work and it was new to me; the chicken chowmein. Definitely FAR SUPERIOR to any of the low quality Chinese places around that do “low mein”. So much fresher, such great flavor. Truly a unique and delicious flavor. With the onions and cilantro it was almost like the “Mexican food of Asian food” i would almost put it, but completely unique and unmatched in authenticity. They also gave me these red potato things which I forget what they called them but man they were so freakin good. 5 stars all day, and I’ll be back to try something completely different and broaden my...
