My husband and I came here looking to dine in. To our surprise, there were no tables. Just a small breakfast bar type of counter top with the most uncomfortable stools with metal backs that make it hard to squeeze into for a larger person. This place is clearly set up for take-out orders so do not come here to dine inside. Also, there was a line when we walked in so I ordered at the kiosk. I really wanted pho so I got it with steak and brisket. My husband wanted a marinated grilled pork banh mi, but they didn’t have it on the menu, so he settled for the “cured red meat” whatever that was. We shared a small taro boba tea. As we sat there and waited, our food seemed to have taken longer than the usual wait time that we would at another restaurant. When our food finally came out, a woman from the kitchen brought it out on a tray. She said she mistakenly took it to the wrong counter top. Here’s the real verdict: the pho was awful. The broth was very sweet! Authentic pho should not taste sweet but savory. Also, there was way more noodle than broth, which is unfortunate because I prefer more broth. My husband seemed to like his sandwich but he is easily pleased with food. I am the food critic. The taro boba was fine, but the cup was very small for the price so you’re not getting much value. Also, the pho was $14, which is not worth it. Also need to mention that the meat was very tough and hard to chew. I ended up packing the rest to go, but they give you these thin, cheap plastic containers and that is a health concern because the plastic will leach into the foods. All in all, I would not recommend getting food here, especially the pho. I would just come here for the boba. I feel like I overspent and didn’t get much...
Read moreI usually get Thai tea boba, but decided to try Earl Grey boba and it's sooo good. I will buy this kind of boba from now on.
Our usual boba place is far away, Bon Bon Tea near the Bass Pro shop. However, they give too much ice so you finish the drink faster. Here I can order less ice so my drink is more cost effective and lasts longer. This will be our new boba place. It's so close to our house.
I got the shrimp spring rolls and it's pretty filling as a meal along with the drink. My son and husband each got the banh mi sandwiches. The bread is actually soft and tastes fresh baked like the ones we used to get at DC Banh Mi in Falls Church, Virginia! This bread tastes better than DC Banh Mi! The roof of my mouth used to get roughed up and skinned even though it was fresh baked. This bread at Phantasmic is softer. The sandwiches in Bon Bon cafe & Pho La Vie also had hard rolls as were the ones in the now defunct Kim Lee restaurant on 39. The only issue is that there is only 3 types of sandwiches.
The pork egg rolls are also good and filling. I love boba so this will be our new casual Viet food place. Pho La Vie doesn't have boba. I would also love to see Vietnamese iced desserts locally with crushed ice, beans, gelatin, etc like they had in Northern VA. They don't have this in Pho La...
Read moreMy fiancée and I were excited to try this restaurant after hearing positive things about the food and boba. Unfortunately, our experience fell short of expectations.
We ordered the Bánh Mì Đặc Biệt, but it was noticeably lacking—missing key ingredients like meat, butter, and properly pickled vegetables. Aside from the bread, which was fresh and well-made, the sandwich was quite plain and underwhelming, especially given the price.
We also tried the crème brûlée boba, which tasted like standard milk tea without the distinct flavor profile we anticipated. It was also confusing to be asked whether we wanted boba included, as the menu clearly lists it as part of the drink.
Having regularly enjoyed Vietnamese cuisine, and with my fiancée being Vietnamese, we were hoping for a more authentic experience. For those seeking quality boba and Vietnamese food in the area, we recommend Bonbon Tea and Saigon on...
