Let me start with Atmosphere, this is not a cozy low lit eatery, it’s in a strip mall, the place is very clean, available sitting outside, and Bollywood on the large screen, but when I arrived at 2130 hours on Friday 3rd of Jan 2025, it was still occupied 1/3 full by Indian, and American people. I knew this could be the start of a great relationship.
I ordered Some Onion Bhaji, Chicken Vindaloo, regular Naan bread and Chicken Naan. I have ate plenty of Keema Naan, but never Chicken, always ready for an adventure went all in.
The service was exemplary, with discussion or other possible dishes to try, and the offer to try a cup of Chai, which I gladly accepted. This was a carry out as I did not want to hold them up from closing, but the lady suggested I should eat the Onion Bhaji while I waited for the food, and enjoy my Chai, so I accepted the offer. The Chai arrived, quickly followed by the Bhaji, and a class of water.
Just before my order arrived the lady serving me asked if I needed plates, and cutlery, as she knew I was staying in a Hotel.
The order arrived packed with everything I needed, and off I head a couple of miles to my Hotel. I had planed on eating at the Waffle House by the hotel, and accidentally found this gem of a restaurant far away in my peripheral vision as I drive past it.
I have lived in many countries, and cook and eat a lot of Asian food, Indian being one of my favorites. This I found to be exceptionally good, although not a great cross section of India, at least it is not Butter Chicken or Chicken Tikka Masala.
As an added bonus, the lady said she packed a little extra treat at no expense, a Chicken Chettinad.
I travel through Louisville a couple of times a year, this will be the place I’m stopping at. The food was great, more authentic than most Indian restaurants, which is difficult to achieve. If you cook Indian food you know to get authentic, is a labor of love.
Sorry Vietnamese Kitchen, I still love you, but today the Bombay Grill has my heart.
Not everyone might agree with my conclusion, but I did grow up eating Indian food, and when you can cook your own Indian food, I’m picky about what I eat, and especially what I spend. I do not regret spending $30+ on myself for food, sure beats the hash brown bowel from Waffle House I was planning on eating instead.
Give it a try, Bombay Grill, ask your server for suggestions, they are willing to help, and along with good food, explains itself why they have being serving...
Read moreHaving been born in Mumbai, but raised in America, I was extremely happy when Bombay Grill opened here in Louisville a while back. I have eaten here plenty of times and the place never disappoints. The staff is friendly and does a great job of providing excellent customer service. They have an awesome variety of Indian cuisine which represents the different regions in India. They have traditional Punjabi cuisine which is from the Northern part of the country. They have traditional cuisine from Mumbai such as Bhel Puri and Samosa Chaat which are dishes I recommend to get. If one wants to try something unique or cuisine that represents the Southern part of the country, I recommend the Dosa, Vada or Idli. These items are great and flavorful. The restaurant also has some Indo-Chinese cuisine and the Gobi Manchurian is a dish that is highly recommended - full of flavor and very tasty.
Stopped in today with family and friends to enjoy a nice dinner and we had a great time. The restaurant was not as busy when we arrived at 6 PM, but by 7:30 PM, the restaurant was packed to the brim and the aromas of the Indian cuisine were all in the air. The restaurant has a big screen TV which shows great Bollywood movies and songs which add to the dining experience.
The restaurant is located just north of the Shelbyville Road/Hurstbourne Lane intersection and is in the shopping center near Bristol Bar and Grille and Lucky's Food Market.
Overall, Bombay Grill is one of the best Indian restaurants in town and their variety of cuisine from different regions of India make it a must eat place...
