What a wonderful discovery this restaurant turned out to be! The food was simply exceptional. One of the finest French restaurants I have had the privilege to dine at. Some may well disagree, but I genuinely feel a Michelin Star wouldn't be out of place here. I've dined at a few over the years so it's by no means a throw away comment.
The food as I have already said was exceptional. Not only a fest for the eyes, but also for your hungry belly too. Even the charcuterie board was a cut above many others enjoyed in the past. The daily special soup (asparagus with roasted almonds) was an utter delight hovering between a savoury starter & almost a sweet dessert. Sounds out of place, it wasn't in the slightest.
My hanger steak was cooked exactly how a hanger steak should be & my wife's stuffed chicken breast was the epitome of perfection. Then there was the desserts! Oh my what a joy to have sampled this food.
The staff were on par with the food. From the joyful welcome, including a temperature check (MASSIVE points won here), to being checked in on just the right amount; so refreshing. The owner also popped by twice (we enjoy being at our table for a few hours) and was as you expect, a very charming Frenchman. He can rightly be very proud of what he and his team have achieved at Brasserie Provence.
I can safely say we will be back again soon & not just because we joined their rewards program. This is some of the very best food (and service) in Louisville.
Well done team! Keep up the brilliant work.
Updated to include a recent trip (early March 2022):
Provence has become our go-to restaurant for our wedding anniversary with very good reason(s).
Once again we were made very welcome on our arrival by Guy & I enjoyed our rugby banter that has become just as traditional.
The soupe du jour was fantastic (cream of asparagus with a hint of smoked chilli) as was the lamb special.
A complimentary dessert (pistachio strawberry macaron cake) for our anniversary capped a fantastic meal off a treat.
I am already trying to find an excuse to return before next March!
Keep up the fine work everyone & see...
Read moreWe have been going to Brasserie Provence for years, and it is always, always excellent. My favorites are the French onion soup and Steak Frites, but I’ve never had anything there that wasn’t excellent. The steak frites is always perfect. I like my steaks almost well done and yes that ruins the steak at some places, IF it’s not a good steak to begin with or if the chef doesn’t know how to make a good well done steak, but here I can get my steak cooked exactly as I like it (almost no pink with a bit of char on the edges but still tender and flavorful), and it’s always PERFECTION. The little salad that comes with it is always fresh and the dressing is tasty, and the fries are also perfect, especially when I remember to ask for their delicious aioli. French onion soup to start and then steak frites at Brasserie Provence is my all-time favorite meal, and it is always perfect there. My mom’s favorite is the vichyssoises, which is fabulous. They didn’t have it when she was here visiting this summer (sad face), but they had cold cantaloupe soup and it was stellar. I’m so glad Brasserie Provence is open for lunch, so I can afford to go more often! I so wish they were open for lunch on Saturdays but that’s seriously my only “complaint.” And we have missed lunch a few times when we’ve forgotten lunch closes at 2:00. So yes, my only complaint is that I can’t eat there any random time I want to, ha. The atmosphere is really lovely and pleasant, and not overly stuffy. The staff is always friendly, too, and I love that they have outdoor seating in the shade. We’ve done Mother’s Day brunch there, too, and it was delicious and well worth the price. This is our place for special celebration dinners, taking guests to dinner from out of town, and whenever we just want a great meal. Definitely our...

It’s all about the atmosphere (you know… dim lighting and high prices). It is very nice inside… and you pay (a lot) for it.
The food selection is French, so know that there’s going to be a lot of butter. There isn’t much on the healthy side here. It’s “fine dining” and priced accordingly. What you get for what you pay at fine dining places continues to astound me. The food was fine, but still tailored for general consumption… as in nothing special, nothing risky or unique. It was bland and lacking much flavor. The service was fine. It was pretty autopilot with deviations from the menu (additional charges, of course, and diet be d@mned) not met on the first go round. If I’m paying extra for a substitution, I want to get it.
We were there celebrating a birthday. I made a reservation and pointed out then that if they did some kind of birthday desert to know my son doesn’t like chocolate. After the meal, the server brings out a massive chocolate desert. My wife and I ate it.
The server told us when we were leaving… come back and see us again sometime. It doesn’t have to be a special occasion. Uh… if you spend $200+ on an average dinner for three, you really do have more money than you know what to do with (send some this way, please) and may need to reevaluate life choices. This was (supposed to be) a special occasion. Maybe if a place wants more customers… make it somewhat affordable for NON special occasions.
Recommended if you simply have money to blow are not on a diet of any kind and like French food. We don’t (sadly) have a lot of French options in Louisville. Price for portion size for average tasting food is a little cartoonish, the same as many of Louisville’s “fine dining” establishments.
We will not be back, even for a...
