I happened on this place as I was filling up at the gas station next door. I don't live in the area so I was just going to get the gas and head back home but spotted Ginza sitting back off the road and decided to get lunch. I am very fond of Asian food, tending to go for anything hot and spicy but I enjoy it all.
I didn't expect much as I have come to expect most places around here to be average with only a few exceptions. But I was pleasantly surprised to find this place was way above the ordinary. First of all, they have a few selections from several different Asian cuisines. Nothing extensive, but enough to represent a good mix. Plus a sushi menu that is very extensive. They also have a nice selection of group meals in each category which is a great way to get lunch. I chose one of the group meals for lunch which consisted of Mongolian spicy shrimp with fried rice, egg drop soup, and egg roll.
The soup was served first and it was a bit better than average and quite tasty. It had a nice velvet texture and the blend was creamy and smooth. Next up was the egg roll The egg roll was served differently than I had ever had it. The roll was split into 2 halves and served crunchy side up on a plate with a small sauce bowl built-in. The roll was flaky and crunchy and the taste was well defined and good. I was smiling while eating it and thought I could just eat a few more of these along with the soup and be quite satisfied, when the main dish arrived at the table.
The Mongolian shrimp was a huge serving with large shrimp in abundance. The fried rice was a good portion served in a small bowl. The shrimp had a spicy sauce that was a real joy! It was just spicy enough to know it was there, but didn't overpower the flavor of the shrimp and onions and peppers. I was totally blown away. I must say I was surprised that I was having trouble finishing it all but the flavor kept driving me on. But now for the only downside I had and why I didn't give it 5 stars.
My entire lunch had come to about $15, for the amount of food and quality was very fair. So I decided to get my wife a Togo order so she could experience this new gem I had found. She is a scallop lover to the max. I saw a lunch grouping that features scallops in teriyaki sauce with Miso soup and egg roll. Price on the menu was $15. Now that's a bit more than some of the other things on the menu but scallops are a premium item most places so I wasn't surprised. I ordered it. Now the bad. A few minutes after putting in the order my server comes over to me and says she's sorry but the scallops were actually going to cost me more due to the supplier had raised their prices. I must've looked like I was going to cancel the order for she quickly added that the scallops were being completed and would be out any minute!! How much more? My $15 Togo order turned into a $24 order. Was it an honest error or did she purposely not inform me of the price hike until it was too late? I can't say for sure, but it was the only black mark of the meal.
Overall I was very satisfied with my food and the quality of the preparation. I will be coming back but will inquire about the prices before ordering to not get...
Read moreI’ve gotten sushi here before and it’s great. Our sushi dine in was great.
But this place seems to have no chef for anything beyond sushi.
I’ve eaten Tom Kha at every place in Louisville that serves it, as well as several places in Thailand. This was not it. The broth was decent but probably from a can. There were no aromatics or vegetables added other than raw bell pepper. The chicken was not pieces but leftover slivers (it was obvious that the premiumly-priced Tom Kha was a dumping ground for meat slivers rejected from their Chinese menu).
My partners udon noodles were not edible. Instead of being pan fried (or served in soups) they were boiled to the point that they were like glue. If there was a sauce it couldn’t be tasted with all of the water added. It looked like limp giant spaghetti with no color and some half-cooked vegetables mixed in. There was no flavor to any of it.
On the upside, service was great and our waiter was attentive without being...
Read moreGreat hospitality and very personable! They worked around my dietary needs and that means a lot with all I cannot have. All the food is made to order so they can adjust to your needs. I came with my mom, sister, and my niece and nephew. The waiter was very kind and even spoke to my niece asking how she was doing and what she wanted to eat. The food was very good too! First picture is of their Philadelphia roll and their spicy crab roll. We will give the Philadelphia roll a 6/10, but only because my sister is not a fan of raw fish. The spicy crab would be a 9/10 and that was her favorite. The second picture is of the their Spider Roll with eel sauce over top and the other is their spicy crab roll as well. The spider roll gets a 9/10, it was a big hit! I ordered chicken fried rice, cooked with oil and no egg. I would give their fried rice a 8/10, I really enjoyed my meal! It lacked in the ingredients department but I'd eat...
