Wow Wow Wow! The Birthday month celebration continues as friends & I had dinner at this Burr Ridge establishment. From the service which was beyond 5 stars to the appetizers ( guacamole and tortilla soup) to the margarita flights and dinner-all 5 stars, this is a must stop for dinner if you're looking for very authentic Mexican food. The portions are plenty, the alcohol is top shelf and the service- they're very attentive with plenty of servers that you constantly see or have someone readily available, never having to wait to find someone. 2 of us had the steak fajitas and we both agreed that we've never had jucier tender, such flavorful steak before and the hot iron skillet was very full, colorful with the red, green, yellow peppers & Zucchini strips with onions and tomatoes.. definately a must order. & 1 in our party had the fish tacos served on the flour tortillas and it was very very good, again, beyond 5 stars. The owner, John, is very active & present in the operation of his restaurant and visits every table along with his wife who we saw working the dining area as well which is a huge plus because not only do they tend to their business to be sure you are receieving excellent service but the employees you can see, all are very knowledgeable in the items on the menu and look very happy working there to give you excellent service. Our server, Diego, did an outstanding job with serving us, from his recommendations to even making us our margarita flights. Reservations are highly recommended as the restaurant gets very full. There's a large bar that had stools wrapped around it with a fully stocked bar and excellent drink menu. - again all beyond 5 stars. What a great stop to make my birthday celebration a huge success topped off with a churro bites platter with powdered sugar , drizzled with chocolate syrup and a scoop of vanilla ice cream and shaved chocolate sprinkled on top , served with a huge sparkler for a candle. As for the pricing, you get a whole lot of food on your plate[s] for your money! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Kudos to the owner, for his excellent food & service, can't wait to go back again in the future. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ If you happen to live in the city, the owner has a 2nd location of the same restaurant located in the South Loop under the name La Cantina Grill on South Michigan Ave. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Enjoyed my food from this restaurant! I ordered the shrimp tacos. They give you 3 tacos with a side of refried beans and rice. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and was also seasoned extremely well. Of the different Mexican restaurants I've gone too, I haven't had shrimp tacos THAT well seasoned. The seasoning had a slight heat to it too but not anything too intense or at the forefront of the flavor profile. There was also a decent amount of shrimp per taco. While I ordered take out, the overall atmosphere seemed really pleasant and I can imagine that visiting this place with friends or a significant other would be really nice. I didn't order too much and I came in during a slower day for the restaurant but the wait time for my food wasn't long. There's a bar in the middle of the restaurant and unfortunately I didn't order a drink but I would totally come back to this place with that in mind. Staff were super sweet and it felt like the place running like a well oiled machine. But overall I'd definitely come back if I was visiting the area and would recommend this restaurant to others!!

There’s not many good Mexican restaurants in the area, so I was excited to check this place out and I was NOT disappointed. Sat at the bar and Diego was our bartender. He was super friendly and quick to make our drinks. I had a mezcal cocktail and it was just perfect! We ordered the ceviche chilango and the presentation was nice and it tasted fresh. I was a little overwhelmed, because they have a huge menu selection and everything just sounds so delicious. I had the tampiquena and my friend had the chiles rellenos. Both were flavorful and they don’t skimp on portion sizes. The owner John introduced himself to us. He was extremely personable and friendly. He mentioned that all their desserts are made in house, so we just had to try! We ordered the tres leches and the mini churros. Both were delish and had the perfect amount of sweetness. I’m so happy that we have this place in our neighborhood. Definitely coming back and I’ll be sipping on margaritas here all summer long!

After one good experience at Bar Poca Madre over the winter, my husband and I dined here for date night. We decided to share the shrimp and vegetable soup, which smelled like a dog who just came inside from the rain. I can't explain it any other way, as both of us were so turned off by the soup, we could hardly eat it. (Very pricey for a bowl, so total bummer.) For my entrée, I ordered the grilled mahi-mahi tacos. As a pescatarian, fish/shrimp is my go-to at restaurants and I make mahi-mahi at home once a week or more. The smell was, again, so off-putting, I knew from the moment it was placed on the table it wasn't cooked correctly. To my surprise, it was actually so over-cooked, it was chewy. The smell of bad fish was so powerful, I couldn't make it through a single taco. The refried beans had 0 flavor, essentially cooked without salt or seasoning. The chips and salsa were great and the margaritas we very tasty. With that said, 1 Casamigos Paloma was $20.00. That's just too expensive for an atmosphere that had woman's gymnastics playing on the big screen. Those are city prices!! The waitress was very kind and accommodating, but we waited nearly 15 minutes after finishing before asking a busboy for the bill. I, admittedly, have not returned food to the kitchen in over 10 years. My husband and I reflected on the fact that we dine out veerrrryyy often, but never, not ever complain or send food back. But I was having flashbacks of Gordan Ramsey Kitchen Nightmare episodes where he opens the fridge to see the shrimp and fish has been sitting for weeks in a dirty tub or something... If you work at this restaurant, and are reading this review, please smell the shrimp soup. There is no way to argue that it's palatable. The last thing I'll say, is the waitress admitted to us that the cook (Chef?) agreed the fish was not great when he took it back. And that he'd served her bad chicken once before. Although I appreciated the honesty, I'm not sure the owner would have ... With such a beautiful outdoor space for summer on the horizon, we are totally bummed that this will be our second and last visit to this location! We eat out about once a week and love Mexican food....
