Pete's Sushi & Poke — Restaurant in Madeira Beach

I recently visited this sushi restaurant for the first time to place a take-out order. The staff were friendly and I noticed that Pete, who was working behind the prep area making sushi himself, gave a warm welcome and a friendly greeting. I ordered 1 tuna and salmon nigiri, each with 2 pieces, a spicy salmon hand roll with salmon and cucumber, and topped with spicy salmon sauce, and a shrimp tempura poke bowl with their sushi salad.

After placing our order, we were given seats to wait, but we decided to take a walk outside until our order was ready. When we returned to pick up our order 10 minutes later, we were pleasantly surprised to find that Pete had added some extra items to our order. He had kindly added a few extra nigiri pieces just because he wanted to.

Overall, the quality of the fish was good, although I did notice that the sushi rice was almost perfect except for one or two pieces in my hand roll that had a stale texture. Additionally, the poke bowl lacked dressing. Despite these minor issues, I would recommend others to give this sushi restaurant a try if you're in the area. This was hands down the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. Walking in, there were no smiles no greeting and we felt very unwelcomed. While ordering they didn’t smile, didn’t show any enthusiasm, seemed as if they hated their job. I understand not everyone loves their job and doesn’t want to be there but not even smiling?? When receiving our food they hadn’t asked if we needed anything else. The sushi tasted fishy and old. I’ve had better sushi in land locked states. The “crab” is also imitation.. not real.
