Bambu Dessert Drinks — Restaurant in Madison Heights

Even after 20+ visits to Bambu, it is difficult to rate a place like Bambu. On one hand, many of its products are great. On the other hand, service can range from okay to outright bad. I'm writing this as an overall impression rather than one or two anecdotal experineces.

From the product side, they automatically win because they are ahead of the competition in the area. They do the traditional bubble tea drinks pretty well but also have some dessert innovations that include a hodgepodge of shaved ice, toppings, milk, and tea. They are quite heavy so save room for dessert. I wish they did have customer options to adjust the sugar level though, like most places in California. My personal favorite drink: taro milk tea with egg pudding.

Now the not so great...I don't know if it's just a couple of the cashiers or as a collective whole but they can be quite curt and rude. I don't mind the lack of smiles but they can give off an attitude like they either don't wanna be there or just don't have patience to listen to your order. Again, this was not a one-time deal but rather across many visits over a year.

Their credit card minimum of 10 dollars is also quite a hassle. This situation becomes exacerbated when the cashier adds an attitude because your order was $9. A simple solution for the owner would be to just add a 50 cent charge to orders under 10 bucks, rather than just deny the order.

The wait times can also vary greatly - especially on weekends and weeknights. A drink can sometimes take up to 20 minutes to come out. This is absolutely not a criticism of their work ethic but rather they can be a bit understaffed at times.

I love bubble tea. I want this place to succeed even more than it already has. It's already hard enough to survive Michigan winters. Boba makes it a bit easier. Hopefully the ordering experience at Bambu will become...

Worst bubble tea place I’ve ever been to. If I could rate it zero stars I would. Should’ve checked the reviews before going. I came in to try this place out because I just saw this new location close to my house. I’ve been to other Bambus but never this one. The lady looked like maybe 16/17 and was completely disrespectful. Wasn’t trying to help me at all and was trying to get me to hurry up my order. She had a complete attitude and was acting like I was dumb and she couldn’t understand what I was saying. I asked for a blended lavender Boba, but they didn’t have it at this location which I was fine with because I had a back up option. So I wanted to get the Vietnamese coffee and I asked her if she could do it dairy free but she said no because of the condensed milk, but when I went to the other location they said they could do it dairy free. Then she asked me what flavoring that I want and I said salted caramel and she said that’s a completely different drink but it was under the category of Vietnamese coffee. I read it off the board so I was confused why would it be under that category if that’s not one of those drinks. So then I asked her what flavors do you have thinking maybe they just didn’t update their menu and she points to the exact spot I just read off of. I tell her what kind I like and she responds with anything else with an attitude. Poor service. Completely disrespectful and didn’t help me out at all. She had an attitude the whole entire time. I’m giving this Bambú place 5/5 stars because everything is just to its perfection

Staff: The staff was extremely friendly and nice! That’s one of the major reasons why I keep coming back to this place! They double check with you the order and if they get it wrong by mistake they have no issue to make a new one for you. They might be in a rush sometimes but it’s a kind way of rush, just to make sure everyone in the line don’t wait long to order. They even give you suggestions of what to order depending on what you like!

Clean: Honestly is always nice and neat on the counter and the place is always spotless! Even the bathrooms are spotless every time I go in and if something is wrong just go to a staff member and they will make it right!

Food/beverages: Everything is so great on the menu and they don’t take that long to make it honestly

Overall: Overall I would recommend everyone to go check this place out, is my place to go for Bambú, I’ve been to the other places and they are not as good...
