Yeah, this hotel is not one to rave about...not at all. However, if you're just in Madison for a couple of days (especially as a vendor), and, if you're short on funds, this place will do in a pinch. When you call tell the mgmt. that you want the nicest room they have (maybe you'll get lucky). Take your own blankets, pillows, sheets etc (those they have will give ya the eebie-jeebies); also take some Lysol and some candles-especially for the bathrooms as it seems the cleaning staff is either lazy or blind (maybe both). Take ear plugs so the noise from the bar doesn't keep you awake--that's a must--that is, unless you plan to spend the night at the bar. Aside from the obvious discord of the amenities, the terrible cleaning staff, and the noisy nights, the place does have a certain charm. Also, it's right in the middle of things, just a block or so from the square, and just a couple of blocks from the Chataqua area, and just a bock off the river. So it allows for quick access to the best that Madison has to offer. I seen one person write a review about an underage person and a "girl of the night" being in the bar; well, it's up to the parents to keep their children under control (a rarity today) and if you don't like the painted ladies, well, don't look! I've stayed here two yrs now as a vendor at the Old Court Days on the square; I felt fortunate to have found they had another room available this year. So, I hope that nobody stays here; that is, except for those of us who find it to be an acceptable place to rest for a...
Read moreI paid for my room for a month.. BIG MISTAKE! I had no hot water @ the sink in my kitchen and my sink was stopped up for over a month. When they got it fixed, the next day it backed up again. When I went to the bar, ( they have no office or staff that will work with you ) to inform them, I was asked "What did you put down the drain this time?" After a month with no plumbing, I was happy to have a sink so I could cook. I was given so many excuses about their attempts to repair the problem, it became apparent they were lying to me. I was told they had to call an emergency plumber in. If they did that, the problem would have been fixed! ALSO in my room I had no smoke/fire detector, no vent fan in the bathroom and the switch plate for the light did not have any screws in it. Any child could pull the dimmer switch knob off and the wires would be exposed creating a real shock hazard. The fuse box located just outside my door has all kinds of wires run to it not in conduit. What a mess! On the 1st floor, there are no smoke detectors. The wires are hanging out of the wall but no detector! The emergency exit sign does work at all. I did a battery check on it my self. But wait! It gets better! In the mail hallway on the first floor, there is a big blood stain at the end of the hall where a rat died. The dead rat was on the floor for 3 days before I moved out. As far as I know, it is still there! LOTS of better places to stay in town. The few extra dollars a night will...
Read moreA creepy run-down bar with a seedy hotel attached. Not impressed with anything this place has to offer. The prices are terrible for what you get, there's nowhere to park if you don't want your car dented up by car doors or broken into, and the undesirable clientele make this place one to avoid. I would not even stay here for one night, and I've lived in some real slums in some bigger cities through college. Not only that, but I've known multiple people to be robbed/jumped/stabbed after frequenting this establishment....
