Every visit has been a disappointment. One day they can't accept cash. One day they can't accept credit cards. There are no scales at the self checkout so today I used the hand held scanner and a sheet of UPC codes to ring up five bananas. It got the first one right then charged me for four bunches of broccoli at five times the cost of a banana. I didn't notice until I got home. My wife went down to get a refund and they couldn't do it. They said bring back everything I bought and they'd try that. They also said this was the second time this happened today and the time on my receipt was 32 minutes after they opened. I'm in the downtown Dollar General at least once a day because I live and work right next to it. The staff is friendly and helpful. The store usually has pretty much everything I need. If you're looking for basics (cleaning supplies, shampoo, canned goods, paper products, etc.) then this is the best place to get them downtown (maybe the only place?). They do have a very limited range of merchandise, but you can get refrigerated and frozen food, party supplies, some small exercise equipment, candles, and coloring books.
