I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Chandler Madison's boutique hotel in Madison, Indiana, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience! From the moment I walked in, I was struck by the hotel's sleek and modern design, perfectly blended with the historic charm of this 18th-century landmark.
The hotel is located in the heart of Madison's historic district, and the owners have done an impeccable job of preserving the building's original character while incorporating modern amenities. The lobby's stunning architecture, complete with high ceilings and ornate details, is a testament to the building's rich history.
I appreciated the efficient self-check-in process, which was quick and easy. The automated system worked seamlessly, and I was able to access my room without any hassle.
My room was spacious and stylishly appointed, with a comfortable bed and a charming atmosphere.
While the hotel doesn't have an on-site restaurant, its location makes up for it - there are plenty of excellent restaurants within walking distance. We enjoyed exploring the local dining scene and discovering some hidden gems.
What impressed me most was the hotel's commitment to preserving the building's history while still offering a luxurious and modern experience. From the restored hardwood floors to the original plaster moldings, every detail has been carefully preserved to maintain the building's integrity.
My only minor complaint was the footstep noise from the room above ours, which was noticeable at times. However, this is a small price to pay for the privilege of staying in such a historic and beautifully restored building.
Overall, I would highly recommend the Chandler boutique hotel to anyone looking for a unique and memorable stay in historic Madison, Indiana.
Pros:
Beautifully restored 18th-century landmark Modern amenities and design Efficient self-check-in process Comfortable and spacious rooms Great location in historic Madison with plenty of nearby restaurants
Cons:

Read moreMy recent stay at The Chandler Hotel in downtown Madison, Indiana, was nothing short of exceptional. The check-in process was a breeze, thoroughly communicated via text, which made for a smooth and hassle-free arrival. We stayed in the La Belle Rivière Suite (Room 202), and it was a perfect choice for a relaxing overnight getaway.
The suite itself was large and spacious, with every detail thoughtfully designed for comfort. From the pristine cleanliness (a solid 10/10!) to the beautiful, simple decor, every aspect of the room exceeded expectations. The hotel’s design evokes a sense of "old money" charm, with a relaxing, almost timeless ambiance. It’s clear that much thought went into restoring this historic building into a luxurious boutique hotel, and we loved flipping through the photo book that showcased its transformation.
A few standout features that made our stay even more enjoyable: fresh-ground coffee, locally made hand soaps, and bedding so incredibly comfortable I slept like a dream. The spacious shower was another highlight—perfect after a long day of exploring. And for a bit of outdoor relaxation, the hotel’s terrace offers a cozy space that feels both intimate and a little glam.
Though there was no staff on site during our stay, everything we needed was readily available in the room or for purchase upstairs. The location is fantastic—just a short walk from the river and surrounded by charming shops, eateries, and a fantastic coffee spot, The Red Roaster Coffee & Eatery, just a block away.
One of the things that stood out to me the most was how welcoming the hotel was to my Service Dog. The accommodations were just as comfortable for her as they were for us, which made our stay even more enjoyable.
With its unique decor, historical significance, and overall relaxing vibe, The Chandler Hotel offers an experience that feels both luxurious and homely. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Madison, and I will certainly be returning for...
Read moreThe Chandler is a brand new hotel in the heart of historic downtown Madison, IN. It is within walking distance of everything, only a block off Main Street. What a nice surprise! While called a hotel, The Chandler acts like an Airbnb. There is no staff and you are given a unique code to enter the building and your room. The building has clearly been lovingly and beautifully renovated to suit its new purpose.
The rooms are all on the second floor, so beware if stairs are an issue. But it is definitely worth the hike up a few steps. Each room is unique with different design elements, all very lovely. There are vaulted ceilings, exposed brick and wood floors, giving it an "old world" factor, but brand new modern appointments for the trendy feel. There's an outdoor space with comfy furniture to lounge on and a cooler of beverages for sale for your convenience. One minor suggestion I have would be to incorporate some kind of snack vending since there is no nearby convenience store, but there were a couple of sweet treats (from the local chocolate store, I would imagine) to greet our entry. We also appreciated the fresh flowers -- lovely touches to make you feel welcome. All the elements of comfort and convenience were also included - little fridge, plenty of outlets, complimentary toiletries, good towels, etc. We were happy to be able to sign in to YouTube and Netflix on the TV as well.
Lastly, the hotel owners are terrific - we had a little snafu with Expedia during booking and were able to contact one of them directly. He was attentive and helpful and fixed the issue. We got to meet him in person while checking out and we could tell this project was a labor of love for them - we hope they and The Chandler are successful and we look forward to a...
