I went to Kappy's when I was a wee lad, and was surprised to see this place still open. I decided to take the kids here for nostalgia. The place has definitely been updated since. Inside, there were plenty of booths and tables. The outdoor seating area was somehow closed.
With the boys and I, we ordered: Mama Alpoganis Meatloaf -- it came with mashed potatoes and gravy. The gravy was interestingly orange. Despite that, my son really liked it Pot Roast -- this was my pick. The gravy was more traditional brown, and came with several slices of pot roast. The meat was OK... it wasn't seasoned as well as I hoped, but the gravy covered it, literally and figuratively. The mashed potato was good Jumbo shrimp basket -- my son got this one as he was craving shrimp and fries. We were all surprised by the large shrimp (or shrimpS?) and the amount as well. This was good.
All entrees came with soup or salad. The boys got the matzo ball soup, which I had a couple of bites (or is it sips?) and it was pretty good. The broth wasn't too salty, but just right, mixed with the matzo ball. I went with the cream of potato. It was really good as well.
Service was really good. The people there were very attentive, friendly, and was on-point. I'm bumping up this review because of that. It was nice to enjoy a meal at a restaurant where I use to go. Ah, the memories.
BATHROOM REVIEW: Located past the front doors, and down a short hallway, the mens bathroom was decent sized. It had a urinal and toilet. Sink was clean, and the toilet looked good. Sit...
Read moreI'll start by saying I think I ordered the wrong thing. I sat at the counter and had the prime rib hash with eggs over easy. It was seasoned nicely, the potatoes were done well, generous ratio of meat to potato, but there was a lot of fatty chunks in the mix and the lean meat chunks were kind of tough, i.e. stringy. I know prime rib is very fatty so that was to be expected, but I was disappointed in how overcooked the meat was to the point of being tough. I would probably not have bothered giving it a review, but for the eggs... They were over easy eggs but had a runny white and probably a raw yolk inside. I love warm, runny yolks but uncooked egg whites is a little gross to me. I've never had over easy eggs with uncooked whites. I didn't complain at the time as I was starving and I can tolerate a lot when I'm that hungry. No complaints on the service. The staff were courteous and checked in with me from time to time. I do believe the the management is actively interested in serving good food. The manager was at the window a lot checking the appearance of what was being served. The restaurant is comfortable...clean and airy. I would eat there again. Just steer clear of the prime rib hash and make sure you specify the whites are cooked through if you order...
Read moreRename it krappys. Food isnt worth the trip in my honest opinion :( , very mediocre. Used to be better when I was in high school. I came here not too long ago and it was pretty sub par and forgettable. I was thinking about how the food tastes like something you could honest to god make better quality at home. You ever pay your bill and take a glance at the check and think wow I really wouldve been happier at dunkin donuts drive thru? Yeah. It felt like eating breakfast at a relatives house whos food got worse with age but you cant help but feel bad and get quiet after you notice it and hope they dont see the reaction. Food wasnt warm enough and was pretty bland. Customer service wasnt too bad, they werent rude, but they werent friendly and pretty slowww kitchen timing considering how empty it was when i went. Servers/waitresses are super awkward and dont read social cues really well. Need younger employees or people who look like they arent being held hostage or constipated while working. So disappointing seeing how the quality tanked over the years, i hope they can get it back to its old charm...
