I'll start with the positives - the place is gorgeous! Edison bulb lighting everywhere, and well worn-in leather furniture. Most of the seating was appropriate save for a few high top "tables" that were barely big enough for one person's meal. We were unlucky enough to have been seated at one of these tables; you'll see in the picture. I had to put our pitcher of luke warm tap water on a shelf separating our table from another half of the dining room.
Anyway, our experience was pretty subpar. We were told we'd have an hour wait for a good table but were seated more or less right away at a terrible one (when I had expressed that we didn't want to be by the bar, they put us directly across from it. My partner doesn't drink and we advised them of that). We were both certain they seated us so quickly to get us out of there just as quickly, especially considering the wait staff and hostesses weren't exactly friendly or pleasant to us.
We got an extremely overpriced cheese plate (not pictured) that had five small cubes of cheese, four pieces of prosciutto and stale crisps. I had also asked for their olive mix and they brought me a bowl of like, 50 olives for two people. They were pretty gross and had some marinade on them that was extremely unpleasant. We each tried two olives, agreed we didn't like them, and they took them back no questions asked. Seemed like such a waste of food; if you're going to pride yourself on your charcuterie game, you better have your ratios down.
I had the salmon and my partner had baked chicken on this vile cherry/mushroom goop. It was an awful texture and didn't taste great. Both of our meals were heavily under-seasoned except for my salmon that had so much salt on it it made my lips pucker. The salad was good that my salmon topped, but had no flavor. Nor did the sauteed veg. It looked so appetizing but wasn't at all.
We were hopeful for this place, so we got a tiramisu cake that came with coffee ice cream. The cake was delicious but the ice cream was disgusting. It tasted freezer burnt and was very watery/icy. There was a brownie(?) crumble that was extremely stale...
Our bill was about 175$. Not shocking but disappointing considering how lackluster the food and service was. I think we saw our waitress a total of three times and she was a rude. Not sure if she was just having a bad night.
Anyway, the final verdict is 3 stars. The atmosphere was cool as hell but the food and service wasn't worth the nearly...
Read moreWow, this is an amazing place. My daughter and I drove from CT to NH for brunch with 3 other family members. The Foundry is a place. I would give my highest recommendation. The interior space is very large. The atmosphere is warm, the service impeccable. The food was scrumptious! The brunch layout has multitudes of choices. There were: bacon, and sausage from local sourced meat. There were scrambled eggs ( an omelet station was on the other side of the room). There was a pastry set up in the center of the room. A cooked shrimp smoked salmon and oyster station garden salad with toppings. A large fresh fruit selection, there was soup, and I highly recommend the bread pudding and the corn beef hash. There were servers at the roast beef ( ajus and horseradish on the side), and the large made to order omelet station. My daughter has a severe allergy to eggs. We called ahead and talked to the manager. We were afraid of cross-contamination from the serving utensils and grill. They were exceedingly accommodating. They cooked all her food in a separate pan instead of on the grill. They opened a brand new box of smoked salmon and set a large pile on her plate(my daughters favorite) bacon, fresh fruit, anything she saw in the brunch room was brought directly to the table for her) no fus no problem. She was made to feel special. Most places grudgingly help. So, this happy special treatment was amazing. They also serve some delicious cocktails Belini's in multiple flavors, mimosa, and bloody Mary along with an assortment of others. Be warned the wine glasses are large! There is a free parking garage next door. It has a roof access that is a door into The FOUNDRY. We were there while school was in winter recces. I am not sure if you can park in this garage during school since UNH is directly next door. I apologise, normally I take pictures but after using my GPS for 2 hours I was...
Read moreI reserved a table for a Valentines double date and we just got done eating here.
The Foundry has always been one of my favorite places to go because it has good food, well made drinks, and a beautiful setting... but I don't think I'll be going back.
When we entered we ended up having an additional member in our group, which I hadn't known about until last minute, but the host was kind enough to accommodate us and was generally pleasant to interact with.
The food was really good as well. It was perfectly cooked, nice and flavorful, and the portion sizes were just right. The single drink I had was also really good.
HOWEVER... Our server was awful. During our service our server: Took an extremely long time to check on our table Took plates without asking if we were done Ignored one of the people at our table almost entirely Never asked if wanted refills on anything and never gave us time to ask about refills either as they would just scurry off immediately after dropping something off at the table Almost took my girlfriends food away without even asking if she wanted a box (she had only eaten 1/3rd of it because she was full) When the to go boxes came out, without asking, she just dumped each meal in a box without any care.
All in all we felt very unwelcome, rushed, and put off on a day that we all should have been celebrating our partners & relationships as a whole.. and for nearly $50 per person on average, not including tip, it was a severe letdown.
I'm giving it two starts overall because, even though the food & drinks were really good, the service was severely lacking for the cost and our Valentines night...
