A very happy accident. A spur of the moment decision to visit Pike's Peak on Sunday of Labor Day weekend turned out not to be the best thought out plan, which we knew was a possibility. You can't live in Colorado and not consider these things, right? The line of traffic backed up to the North Pole (for reference, I have no idea where the gate is as we've never visited before. Shameful for a Colorado native, right?!) So we turned around to find food in Manitou Springs. There was a parking place on their damaged, closed down main street, directly in front of The Kitchen. Fortuitous or Divine intervention, I do not know but yay!!! My understanding from another diner is that it's a husband and wife team. He cooks, she's out front looking like a modern day Rosie the Riveter. The food was.... ok, my golden tongue is failing me. The food was so good. I'm a huge biscuit and gravy fan. I hesitate to have it some places because.... well, just because. So. Glad. I tried it here!!! Hands down the best B&G I've ever had. And my bro-in-law used to make some amazing gravy and home made biscuits. Hubby gave the omelette two thumbs up and we both enjoyed the atmosphere. It makes you want to be a local when the hostess greets you by name and the local customers chat outside on the sidewalk with visitors. The flooding in July closed the main street due to a sink hole and it's really hurt businesses. It's such a cute town with the river running through it and the buildings built to hang over the river, shops to browse and fresh, pine scented air to breathe. Manitou isn't a normal day trip for us. It's a going through place. We visited once many years ago. We will be going back just to visit The Kitchen. I highly recommend you do too.

What a wonderful Little place. I don’t recommend on a super hot day because it seems they don’t have air conditioning. It’s a very old building so it’s understandable but the decor is simple and it feels like you are just in someone’s house. Lol We ordered the quiche and the traditional breakfast. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the quiches was a bit small but perfect for a light lunch (which was what we were going for), the sausage Patties are hand formed and very savory. The iced sweet tea was perfectly balanced. The owner was our server and he was so very kind and accommodating. Checked on us often and was insistent on everything being perfect. We sat by the window so we could see Manitou life as we ate. Such a nice little visit.

Cozy diner that serves breakfast and lunch. It seems that only one person was running the place himself, but he was doing a great job! He welcomed us from the kitchen and told us to sit wherever we like. After we ordered, the food came out quickly and we ate it just as fast! It was so good that we came here two mornings in a row! We had the breakfast burrito and chocolate pancakes. It wasn't busy, and we snagged a close parking spot. Will be going back every time we are in Manitou Springs!

The owner/waitress was so horrible to my 11 year old neice. She has suffered trauma and her Dad died last year of brain cancer. Due to this she has anxiety in public places and is selective mute. The way we work around this is we ask her what she wants and order for her. The owner told me "she hasto say it for herself." I told her "she won't," to which she responded, "then she won't eat." My mother and I were shocked. She then began to tell us that "I don't do that." My mother told her she was selective mute and she said "as long as it's something like that and not just 14 year old teenager disrespect." Then she kept insisting that we tell her..."I need to know why. I need to know what her problem is." I just felt so violated and like NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS! I am not sure why she assumed an 11 year old girl is 14. My niece sat there and cried and cried. She was so embarrassed and my mother and I felt so awkward. We had to assure her....it's ok...and to not let the woman bother her. We should have left immediately, but I think my mother and I were in a state of shock and did not know what to do. It was so cruel and unnecessary. As a grown woman...the owner should understand that you never know what someone is going through and my neice is just a child. It was the most horrible and rude restaurant experience I have ever had. Just so emotionally horrible. I'm crying for the death of my brother and now crying for the shame of how his baby girl was treated,...

Great little secret.

We have driven past this place a few times and been wanting to try. Today was the day.

Walked into this quaint little spot this morning and was greeted by smile. The lady who sat us also was our waitress.

She offered us breakfast, lunch or their specials. There wasn't a butt load of opinions and we loved that. Too many places try to put so many things on their menu that they aren't good at any of them. Places like this that keep their menus simple and usually are the ones that master the food they do offer.

I ordered their breakfast quiche with potatoes and a side of fruit. My husband had the breakfast burrito. Mine was really good. I would have like a little more season to the potatoes but that is truly just my preference. The quiche was really good. And was very impressed with the fruit. My husband was very happy with his burrito. He said that it was all good and he was very full.

We were then offered buttermilk pie with fruit compote. I'm not a huge buttermilk pie person and my husband isn't a huge berry person but between the two of us we smashed it.

The waitress and chief were very personable. We throughly enjoyed the food and company. I know I read a few reviews and peoples reasoning for giving 1 star (IE: weren't open during posted hours, too small, too hot, etc.) I don't feel are valid. This is truly a couple running a business and it was great. Highly recommend this place.

We...
