Not being mean, just honest. First, the pros: the receptionist was great. Very friendly. She did ask me how my stay was and while I didn't necessarily lie, I didn't tell the whole truth. I said it was ok and mentioned a couple things to her. Oh, and the 5g wifi kept up with my streaming shows. More on that later.
So I guess now for the cons. Yeah, the pros are over already. Besides the nice receptionist, i didn't have a great stay. Walking into the room, it was freezing. No problem, turn on the heater for a while, no big deal. Only the heat barely reached the farther queen bed before it turned off. As soon, and i kid you not, as soon as it turned off, a gust of cold air blew through the room and sucked the heat out immediately.
I thought it was weird, so i turned the heat up 2 degrees to kick it back on. Turned on, maybe 10 minutes, just enough to reach the farther queen bed where I sat, then turned off. I get it. It's an auto heater and it felt the temp right next to it was fine. My ac does the same at home. Only, when it turned off, another cold gust of air came through and all the heat was gone again.
The room had no insulation! Not sure if single-paned glass, but it would not stay warm for 5 minutes. Sitting on the bed, i turn on the tv and 3 of the channels i wanted to watch were so glitchy and pixelated i had to turn the tv off before it frustrated me. Sure there were channels that weren't glitchy but it wasn't an availability issue with the aforementioned 3 channels. So, got on my pc and watched shows on hulu. Wifi was great.
Before that, sitting there staring at the wall, there were 3 or 4 very noticeable patch jobs for holes. Very tacky that they didn't sand it flat before stuccoing over it. Bothered me for some reason. Maybe it was the $90+ per night charge to stare at poorly covered holes. Later, I go into the bathroom. So tiny. Toilet almost touching shower with just enough room to close the door. Is that common here in hotels? Turns out, no. That wasn't the bathroom issue though. I don't mind small spaces.
First thing i noticed was the very dated shower head. Very dated. Water pressure was fine, hot water was fine. Shower head was not ok. I wanted to bury it and say a few words over it, dated. I get out the shower and find a hair on one of the towels. A long hair. I'm a dude and bald so it wasn't mine. I left it there for them to see and told the front desk.
I go to brush my teeth and happen to put my hand on the counter with fingers over the lip of the sink. Granite, i guess, but i noticed it wasn't smooth around the sink lip like at the edges of the counter. Light reflection showed what could've been old toothpaste or something around the sink lip, just at the front. So grossed out that my hand was on possibly someone's bacteria infested toothpaste spit.
The next morning, i make coffee in their setup, and when i picked up the coffee pot, it started dripping everywhere. Looked for a leak, didn't see one, but it dripped all across the bathroom sink as i poured it. No idea there, but disappointed. Glad to get out. That's...
Read moreMy son and I just finished a sixteen day cross country trip and spent all sixteen nights in hotels. For impeccable customer service, America's Best Value Inn Villa Motel wins without even one other close contender. I spoke with two separate desk clerks, also Dave Vance Jr., the General Manager, and his wife, Stacie Vance, at different times during our three night visit. All four went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. Stacie is incredibly friendly and personable and she even made local restaurant recommendations for us during the one day blizzard that blew through in the midst of our stay. Dave spent meticulous time clearing the lot of snow and he even scraped our car! Dave also goes out of his way for his employees, as Stacie mentioned that he went out to pick up one of their employees for their shift at the hotel so that the employee didn't have to drive in the blizzard.
As for the facility itself, the small laundry room for guest needs is perfect. The hotel is spotlessly, scrupulously clean and the standard double room we stayed in is large. The bathroom setup is ultra convenient, with toilet and full size shower in a smaller closed area, and a large vanity with clothes rack/luggage storage area just outside the bathroom door, but still located conveniently at the back of the room for privacy. Of all the comforts at this location, (which is great, by the way---an awesome spot from which to explore Manitou Springs) as a visitor from Hawaii, I appreciated most of all the authentic atmosphere of home, a mixture of southern hospitality and Aloha Spirit nestled in the Rocky Mountains. It was a pleasure.
Stacie and Dave, the next time you come to Hawaii, please let me know and I'll share some personal recommendations with you as a thank you for your superior hospitality. Thank you...
Read moreWe live in Manitou Springs and if anyone reading this review is unfamiliar with the area I hope you will seriously consider reserving your next stay here. A few weeks ago our sewer main broke at our house making indoor plumbing unavailable. Needing a place for my wife and son to stay for an undetermined length of time, I chose Villa Motel. Now to be totally candid, I could have put my family elsewhere but I knew the Villa Motel had recently renovated their rooms and when I spoke to the owners of my predicament at home, they were kind enough to help out a fellow Manitou resident with a reduced price. We have never met and they didn't have to do this but it should be noted this is the type of owners they are.
My family stayed in one of the kitchenette rooms which had two queen beds. Nothing fancy but they are clean and comfortable. When some noisy neighbors decided to keep the party going late into the night the front desk staff was notified and they took care of the problem on the spot. We did not partake of the continental breakfast but it was nice to know it was available.
Most visitors to the Villa Motel are unaware of the historic importance of this location in Manitou Springs and there are several historic photos in the office and in the rooms. If you're a history buff, ask the front desk staff about the photos. The location is right on the main street and is a short walk to all of the shops and restaurants.
Villa Motel is a great choice if you're coming to Manitou Springs for a day or a week or...
