My daughter's boyfriend insisted on taking me to a Saturday lunch before we tackled house hunting duties. It turned out to be an even bigger treat than I imagined, this is the best Indian restaurant I've been to in years! Bright, beautiful space. Comfortable booths and tables. Peppy Indian music played on the stereo system.
We started with Veggie Samosas. I was prepared to be underwhelmed, but instead, this mainstay app was two big pyramids of fresh, piping hot, lightly battered goodness, not greasy at all. The accompanying curries were fantastic.I also ordered the chili fried chicken appetizer which was A) fantastic and B) big enough for an entree. Great spice! My daughter and her boyfriend aren't very adventurous, so they both ordered chicken tikka masala. I opted to try the Chettinad with chicken.
Our dishes came out and the server had no problem bringing extra bowls of rice. I want to pause here and celebrate the perfectly cooked basmati rice. No stickiness, no clumps, absolutely flawless. The Chettinad was amazing. It's described on the menu as an aromatic Burmese dish. It was the most wonderful blend of spices...I opted for medium spice level and it was perfect. Fragrant and tender chicken in the most sublime gravy, Hours later, I'm still thinking about it. I used some naan to sample the chicken tikka masala and while this is has got to be the most Anglicized Indian dish in the world, here it was enhanced with spices and elevated beyond the usual boring offerings of Indian restaurants attempting to cater to timid Minnesota palates.
I should mention, I hadn't eaten anything all day and I was ready to start gnawing on my right hand by this point. I am still kicking myself for not saving room for a bowl of homemade mango ice cream for dessert. There will be a next time-soon-and I'll pace myself accordingly.
A big shout out to the staff. They were attentive and helpful and we never had an empty water glass. Five star service. I cannot wait to return and try more of the menu. I'm grateful there's a location near me in South Minneapolis so I can do...
Read moreWhen the moment I entered into this restaurant after months of not being able to have a chance to eat here with time being a crunch, I was welcomed with excellent staff ready to take me to my seat with joy sparked up within their eyes ready to serve. I ordered a spice level of hot chicken tikka masala and garlic naan with a coke to drink and before you know it when I received my food the aroma enabled my cravings to eat as soon as I saw it. The aroma was super fire and when this staff member Alex who by the way asked me questions that left me feeling like I was at home just peaceful and the environment and energy left me feeling pleased that I was able to eat such perfection. All the staff members are exceptionally great but Alex took it to a whole another level with the service he provided me and I most definitely recommend anyone who hasn’t tried Indian food or absolutely loves Indian food to come to this restaurant as you’ll be welcomed by a caring and peaceful staff seated in tables that you can absolutely enjoy the scenery and also eating while not worrying about if and when staff will rush you to pay. These staff absolutely don’t rush you and you can take as much time as you want to eat and when you ready to pay they come and take payment with ease and the amount of money I paid for my food was absolutely worth it I paid $28.21 for my food and it was so worth it. 9.5/10 definitely recommend coming here if you want some peace and lovely scenery with food that’ll leave you comfy and ready to be in a smiling happy mood!!! Thank you Dancing Ganesha for giving me the opportunity to try some of your Indian delicacies as it has left me with joy and fulfillment making this restaurant my #1 favorite Indian cuisine...
Read moreUpdating my review from 5 to 3 stars. Biryani and chicken appetizers are the only things they do well here.
Came back with friends. Was embarassed by how awful everything else was. Dosa was white, not crispy at all. Sambar was watery. Coconut chutney was bland. Bhatura was cut in half (so you don't get the classic giant puri shape) and completely made of maida (all purpose flour) instead of whole wheat flour. Makani was acceptable.
I usually loathe Indian restaurants in the Twin Cities because I can make the same dishes way better myself. This is one of the few restaurants where the food tastes good enough to splurge on when I'm not in the mood to cook. I got the chicken biryani and chicken 65. Both were great. There are several regional variations of biryani in India and this flavor profile was neutral enough to satisfy anyone. Wasn't too busy when I went and service was quick. I like how unlike most Indian restaurants, they sell pretty much everything here. North Indian and South Indian dishes, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, all sorts of meats and a decent bar to go along with it. Definitely coming back to try other items.
Only complaint might be that I have a hunch they're adding food dye to some of the dishes. I wish...
