I’d been told (not being from here) that Marietta Diner was a staple with good food, and that I HAD to try it. Yesterday after a long day of visiting open houses, we stopped there dinner. Even though the place was bustling and Packed, they’ve got it down to a science! We were told the wait was about 15 minutes. Looking at all the traffic, I was more than skeptical. BUT in 15 minutes we were called, and were led to our table. As we breeched the dining room an older gentleman ripped the menu out of my hand while saying, “You won’t need that”. Because we moving so quickly, I didn’t have time to react, and before I could get into my feelings about how RUDE that was, a perky server popped up along side as if by magic. He took our drink order, disapperated (a nod to Harry Potter fans)! And reappeared with our drinks. He had a heavy accent that I couldn’t place , so I asked him where he was from. “Greece”, he said, proudly! I chatted him up (in as much as you can chat someone up in a super busy restaurant). Super friendly and Suoer efficient! I thought it was interesting that the only servers I saw were men. The bread that was served was pretty good (would have been excellent had it been hot). The Spanakopita was pretty good as well, but for my taste, it would have really good had it been served hot. Both my husband and I got the tomato soup (the soup was thick like a chowder and had something in it that couldn’t identify, it also appeared to have been loaded with cheese)? We both got a Caesar salad (which is SUPPOSED to be served COLD. This salad wasn’t warm or room temp, but also not super cold. Dressing was good (cuz if you don’t know what you’re doing Caesar dressing can turn out really really bad)!
We ordered our meal, and when it came to the table I realized there’d been a mixup. They have a “Seafood Lover’s Treat” and a “Fried Seafood Platter” one is visually stacked on top of the other on the menu, & they’re the same price @ $39.95. I mistakenly ordered the wrong thing. I would have taken it because it was my error, but the fellow who brought it to the table wasn’t havin’ it! He took it back, and told our server. The server told the manager and then the manager came to the table. I explained it was my error and apologized profusely. And then he said apologetically, “It’ll take another 10 minutes to make it and plate it, is that ok?” OF COURSE! It’s ok?! Please AND thank you! I thought to myself.
My food arrived pipping hot, but over cooked. It was tasty but some of the smaller pieces were rubbery. Portion sizes were huge, but also pricey.
My husband got a dish with grilled salmon and pasta. He said the sauce was flat and tasteless.
I have found in my travels all over the world, but especially in the U.S. that more often than not when you see a menu that tries to serve EVERYTHING that most things are just average or below. This is the case here.
I gave Marietta Diner 4 stars because their system to get in and seated was flawless. Wait staff is WELL trained, friendly and conscientious, restaurant was clean despite having tons of patrons, but the food...
Read moreI went here a couple years ago and was not impressed, a few friends wanted to go and thought I'd try it again to hang out with them. The staff is very nice, polite and service is speedy. There were lots of people, so it was loud and hard to hear each other at our own table, without yelling. The menu is huge. They own multiple other restaurants and it's like this one serves something from every one of those (Greek, seafood, Italian, etc, plus this one does all day breakfast).
The last time I got the carbonara pasta and it was dry and undercooked. There's so many people I feel like maybe they aren't cooking things long enough to get food out faster. We saw a large party of about 20 people and their entrees all came out at the same time. Other than a Mexican restaurant where a lot of stuff is pre-made, I've not seen that much food come out a kitchen that fast.
This time I ordered the biscuits and gravy and the perogies. The perogies were good, but the biscuits were dense and chewy, while the gravy was bland and tasted like wet flour. I didn't bother taking them home.
My friends did a couple of the pasta dishes and one got chicken tenders. The tenders were OK but dry and both the pasta dishes the noodles were chewy and the sauce had a strange taste we couldn't figure out. They got boxes and hoped to salvage it when they got home. The entrees are expensive, but they do come with soup, salad, and a choice of side, and tend to be huge portions. The pastas were enough for 3 people.
We also received a plate that had some spinach pie and what looked like a yummy, gorgeous yeast roll. We cut into the yeast roll and it was so dry it fell apart. The butter served with it didn't help. The spinach pie was probably the best thing we had.
I wouldn't go back after these 2 experiences. They are just one of the late night places to get aome kind of food to soak up the alcohol after a late ballgame, there's really no clubs...
Read moreA+ ✔️ First time in. Very impressed overall! The service was warm, friendly, and attentive. Our server, Tim, was a prime example of hospitality 🙌 And he had a manager swing by for additional recommendations. That guy was top-notch as well! Here's the real sign of guest satisfaction: even with 101 things going on(I'm sure), the manager made it a point to stop by just after receiving our order to ensure our delight. Kudos!
The food: it's exactly what we expected. I mean, it'd a diner. But an excellent one at that! With the abundance of options on the menu, it was well executed. It wasn't fussy or over the top. 🌯 The Gyro Platter - the gyro meat was shaved off a spit vs. frozen slices...a very, very good sign. 🍟 The fries were hot and crispy. Nothing to write home about, but not crap. The accompanying Greek salad 🥗 was just okay, and the tomatoes 🍅 for both the salad & gyro pita were completely unripe. But hey, that's not something to gripe about. The starter, Fried Pierogies 🥟, were flavorful and good. They may not be Grandma's, but they definitely satisfy. A strawberry shake🥤was ordered too...let's just say this fell flat. Not impressive for a diner. The hope was for a damn good one. Ya know, thick, with fresh fruit.
🍰 Dessert: Strawberry Cheesecake & Apple Pie Cheesecake 👍👍 So creamy with a slight tang. Now, this may be subjective, but they were HUGE and delicious! We stopped in once in the past and just got dessert to-go(carrot cake), and it was just okay(again, subjective).
One very sad 😪 disappointment: We saw pictures and reviews of how guests were started with hot, fresh bread 🍞 & spinach pie. We never received this beautiful display of a warm gesture. Not sure if it was the time of day sorta thing or what 🤷♂️
✔️ Here's what you should do...GO. Don't contemplate it, don't fish for other options, just GO...to Marietta Diner 🍽 And...
