Blackrocks Brewery – Great Beer, But Becoming a Daycare

I’ve been coming to Blackrocks since the early days. The beer is consistently excellent — from their flagship 51K IPA to seasonal standouts like Honey Lav, there’s always something solid on tap. The staff has always been friendly, and the Third Street location has that laid-back, local vibe that made it a great place to grab a pint and unwind.

But here’s the problem — and it’s gotten worse over the past year or two: The place is starting to feel more like a playground than a brewery.

It’s become increasingly common to see people bringing their toddlers and even infants into the bar while they drink. And it’s not just “kids being kids.” It’s full-on chaos. Screaming, running through the bar, climbing furniture, parents shouting — the whole thing. Inside and out.

I don’t go to a brewery to feel like I’m at a daycare. I go to relax, enjoy a drink, have a conversation. Lately, that’s almost impossible.

Seriously — what goes through a parent’s mind when they decide it’s a good idea to bring a baby or a 4-year-old to a bar? What message does that send? It’s not safe, it’s not fair to other patrons, and it completely kills the atmosphere.

Blackrocks has the beer dialed in. No doubt about that. But until something changes with the environment — especially the flood of kids running wild — I can’t give it more than 3 stars.

Love the new bumper pool! However, we were finishing up our beers after a game and sliding the balls around the table casually during conversation! A white ball sunk into a hole and popped out onto the floor! Total accident! That was not our intention at all! A worker came up and told us to stop throwing balls…. What?? We tried to explain the accidental drop but he told us “no, I heard multiple.” Which was Infact incorrect. He probably mistook that for footsteps from downstairs. I understand this was a miscommunication but I didn’t love the accusatory tone. I love Blackrocks and would never do anything to disrespect such a staple in the community so I was a bit shocked! It was 10:55 so If I had to guess they were probably just sour that we were there close to closing time. This is the one any only uncomfortable interaction I’ve had here so I guess just walk on egg shells once it nears closing hours, otherwise...

Blackrocks Brewery simply always delivers. They deserve 5 stars every time I have visited. I'm a big fan of their lager series right now and overall atmosphere and service is always an immaculate vibe. But I'm really here to talk about the food we ordered from a food truck that was parked on-site at the brewery. We got DaH Pretzels, and I truly had the best burger of my life. They had a smash burger on the menu on a housemade pretzel bun that completely blows any other burger out of the water. I think I achieved peak nirvana. We loved the food so much we went back to order a second round of menu items and ate ourselves into a big puddle of indulgence. Slow clap, standing...
