I saw that this place had slightly lower reviews than other craft coffee places in the area and brushed it off because it looked like it has a lot of seating and possibly a good environment. Anyways, when I walked in, I noticed the woman in front of me waiting in line. As time went on and nobody came to take orders, we both grew a little impatient. We kept waiting, and 5 minutes passes by and still nobody came to take orders. The place wasn't packed by any means (about half full of people sitting down and chatting), and the workers were taking their time. Didn't even acknowledge that we were waiting in line. Eventually she left and I kept waiting. I ordered a SMALL "for here" pistachio rose latte with regular milk which was about $7 (not including tip). The latte comes out in a 10oz cup and the cup isn't full, making it about 8oz. I walked up and asked what size I ordered and she said, "10oz" and I told her, "Ok. I was just confused because it wasn't filled up all the way." And she just walked away. In my opinion, their drinks are overpriced and for her to just walk away caught me off guard. As far as the quality of coffee, the latte tastes way too sweet, probably to cover up the poorly dialed in espresso. As far as the low rating for the atmosphere, I sat next to the window seating where there are vents in the floor and they had the AC fan on constantly blowing through the vents and its 43 degrees outside. It was freezing even though I kept my coat on.

Next time I should have just trusted the poor rating and gone somewhere else. I don't write many reviews at all and so I think its far to see that this place stood out to me as particularly bad. I hope management sees this and has a team meeting about customer service skills/people skills, because If i'm paying that much for a coffee, I would expect outstanding service...

Edit: changing to one star. Since my last review a year ago, this location has consistently had bad service. Last week takes the cake. I did an order ahead during my lunch break... just one coffee. Upon pickup I stood at the pickup counter for over 10 minutes. No one ever acknowledged me so I went to the cashier and asked if my coffee was in the making considering it was past my quoted pickup time. She said it's probably in the que and shrugged me off. I politely asked if she could check where it was in the lineup considering I was going to be late going back to work. Another worker had to step in where they both tried to convince me it was sent to a different location. I knew this was not true and was persistent that I sent it to mqt. They found the order and made it for me... acting like they were doing me a favor the whole time. To add to the experience the coffee was less than average and definitely not worth the hassle of experience or price. I've visited coffee shops all over the country. This ones on my no go list.. and should be on yours too.

Original: I've been to all of the contrast locations in the U.P over the last four years. Marquette has the worst service every time. If I'm paying $7 for coffee I would hope they establishment would have friendly customer service. This place doesn't, and never has the last 4 years I've been here. I don't get it. It's really unfortunate, but I think more attention to this...

Do not go here if you are have a time constraint, or if you like being greeted with a smile.

Coffee - Good Food - Good Service - Very Moody Speed - SLOW!!

We were in Marquette for a Northern Michigan University visit and went to Contrast Coffee. I got my standard Latte and my nice got the Dirty Snowball. In addition to the coffee drinks, which were DELICIOUS!, we ordered some breakfast for the road. We got a panini breakfast sandwich and the strawberry fields crepe....again, both delicious. But it took soooooo long to get our food orders. We were heading to pictured rocks and only had 15 min for a quick stop at the coffee shop. 35min later, we ran out and rushed to our pre-paid boat trip and were literally the last ones getting on the boat. If we had walked in and there was a line I would have understood, but we walked in and immediately placed our orders. The woman taking our orders was less than friendly, everybody working there appeared moody. The woman making the food, had ZERO sense of urgency and worked in the least...

Staff was pleasant- showed up around 2-3pm. Tried a Cool Summer Latte, it was delicious and well balanced. Also tried a Apple Chaider- nice tea option, cinnamon and cidery taste. The specialty drinks seem to be the main draw here, good to see some fun tea options. If you are a bean purist and go for pour overs, long rant: Ethiopian Reserve- great for in store pour over, wouldn't pay the price for taking beans home (smaller bag, bigger price). Earth tones with blueberries, worth it to try a cup! Nice ruby color. Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, Colombian and Brazil- all taste relatively the same, medium roast, not sure if the beans are a little old from roast date (no roast dates on retail bags, huge problem for buying retail). They don't really seem to have any notable characteristics to them, just middle of the road flavor, easy drinkers. But just go with the cheapest bag of single origin if you're taking beans home, they taste a step up from store bought but nothing exceptional in my experience, not sure how fresh they are?

If you’re in the mood for overpriced mediocrity, this is your place. The drinks are... fine, if you like your coffee with a side of disappointment. Service moves at a pace that suggests they’re aging beans in real time, and the atmosphere? Think waiting room meets college activism fair. And just when you thought you were here for caffeine, surprise! You’re also here for a crash course in radical politics, courtesy of the print art for sale. Because nothing says “relax and enjoy your coffee” like being reminded that the shop has picked a side in today’s culture wars. Bold move for a business that can’t even get a latte out in under 10 minutes.

I am an avid connoisseur of coffee from owning an online roasted coffee retail/wholesale business. I missed eating an authentic french crepe so I got the Berry White crepe with blueberry preserves and honey mascarpone cheese and Ethiopia pour over. The Ethiopia is a light roast that pleasantly highlights fruity wine notes that a traditional Ethiopia blend has. To me it has a smooth current finish. The experience was excellent! I was told that they use the Ethiopia blend is used in pulling the espresso shots for their espresso drinks. I can only imagine how pleasant the crema of the espresso would be.
