If I could give the place zero stars, I would. We went once and the guy serving us was rude. He acted as if our being there was an imposition and he had better things to do than take our order. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and we tried again today (2 days after the first). This time, my husband took two of my children. The woman gave my children their orders and told them to wait outside while my husband received the rest of the orders. Luckily, one of the children she sent out was 17 yrs old because the other was 5 yrs. Honestly, it wasn't her call to send a 5 yr old out without a parent's consent. Then, my husband tried to order two Hawaiian Shave (they don't say "shaved") Ices with Dole Whip at the bottom. The woman asked if he wanted it for both and he said he did. Then she asked which flavors for the shave ice and he told her what he wanted for one of them and she walked away. He thought she was preparing one at a time, but she did the same flavor for both without giving him the chance to say what he wanted for his.
When he gave my son his, we discovered that she put vanilla, not Dole Whip (the same for my husband's). My husband was over the line and didn't want to go back in. My feeling is that those things aren't cheap and if you pay for something, you should get that for which you have paid. When I went in, the lady was rude and not only that, but in the middle of remaking my son's shave ice, she went to the back room--WITH my son's shave ice--to point something out to another employee. She was in front of the doorway, but the shave ice wasn't 100% visible the whole time. The time was brief, but should never have happened.
There is a charming Lappert's in Indio, CA, where surprisingly, the aloha is exponentially more felt than here in Hawaii.
I do not recommend Lappert's Lahaina by any stretch of the imagination. Their ice cream is good and so is the Dole Whip, but they aren't worth being treated like trash. If the employees don't want customers, I think it best to not give them any. There is a shave ice place that I do not like as much, but they are friendly, courteous and quite simply have good manners. Our favorite (Local Boys), unfortunately didn't survive COVID-19 in Lahaina, but we drove to...
Read moreAt this place a scoop is just the amount of ice cream that fits within the ice cream scooper --- no multiple scrapes to create a bigger than the scooper scoop. When placed on the waffle cone, the scoop is small enough to drop inside. No need to worry about messy drips running down the outside of the cone. In fact, we had to immediately tear the paper wrapper around the cone, so we could bite the cone to even get to the ice cream. At $6.95, it seemed a ridiculously skimpy scoop. Never-the-less, Kauai Pie is still delicious! Honestly, just raise the price and give a scoop as shown on the display board. And maybe offer a child's size for those who really just...
Read moreI took my kids to Maui for Labor Day weekend in 2022, and we stayed in Lahaina and came into Lahaina Town every day to visit Lappert's Ice Cream just for shaved ice and Dole Whip. We came every day for 5 days in a row. We loved it so much. We walked around eating that lovely Dole Whip and shaved ice and walked under the Banyan Tree and walked through The Warf shops and all through Lahaina Town. We love that town. We had plans to come back this year. My heart breaks for all of the people who lost their loved ones and their homes and businesses. It's not right. I've been donating to grassroot causes. I love Maui and it's people. You will rebuild. You...
