This used to be an all time favorite spot for me. If anything it was nostalgic at best. I am all for progress these days as we are launched into this space age, poking our fingers at kiosks and cash registers that won't accept cash anymore. The restrooms at this location always have a handwritten sign that awaits the ever so needed plumber that doesn't exist any longer but must materialize at the moment an employee needs to use it. The lobby is a newly renovated cold and grey tile with no condiments or extra napkins available. The refill soda fountain must have "beamed up" somewhere in space a long with the cheerful personalities of the staff. No more smiles from any employee who clearly don't like the new and improved online service they are attempting to streamline. The typical customer even after 50 years of looking at the menu STILL can't figure out what to order and now can't figure out HOW to order because no one is standing at the register to assist. Instead there's another handwritten note on the register telling him to use the kiosk behind them. In case you didn't catch the handwritten note on the front door, be sure to catch the other one in the kiosk explaining the unavailability of all the milkshake related treats because the milk is out of order or the machine undoubtedly is awaiting the same plumber. When/if you decide to take the load off and browse the Internet at the well known local hot spot while recharging your device, you better think again. I don't know how the building planners overlooked it but there is not one single outlet nor does the internet ever work. "You deserve a break today" has been flushed down the all American toilet at McDonald's, just ask the plumber after all the planets...
Read moreAll McDonald's are not created equal. The service here is always quick proportional to their crowd and the food quality has never been off in the numerous times I've been to this location. This restaurant also features an ice-chilled water dispenser for those who prefer a more refreshing glass of water and don't like the nasty makeshift water that always comes out of the soft drink machines. An order of large fries is a full 40 cents less than the Kahului locations and the savings quickly add up as you order more and more food.
There are some gripes with this location, but are mostly easily remedied. The first is that when going through the drive thru, they have a tendency to botch the order. I've had orders for a breakfast platter and hash browns go without the hash browns and meal orders without the fries in the past. You can simply check your order before driving off or (my recommendation) eat inside to avoid the fuss altogether. It is also rather difficult to pull in or out of the drive thru area of the restaurant on account of its location which provides even more incentive to park in a stall and eat in. The final issue is the volume of homeless people who frequent the area. This is a problem that plagues most McDonald's locations, but this one in particular seems to be a more attractive hub for one reason or another (possibly the more affordable price point).
All in all, there aren't too many things I can think to do to improve the experience at this location. It's a great place to stop in on a lunch break or grab a quick, chilled cup of water on your way to where you need to be. If you want some quick, affordable food in Wailuku, there isn't much reason not...
Read moreDined in this morning with my grandchild. Had to use the restroom. There is 2 bathrooms. One for employees and another for customers. The customer bathroom has a large sign on the door that states 7am-7pm but it was locked. It was 7:15am at the time. So I went to the cashier to tell her I needed to use the bathroom. She spoke in her filipino language to her manager but the manager said the bathrooms was not open yet. I pointed out it was after 7am but they both ignored me, so I went back to my table. Soon after a male employee escorted a male customer to the customer bathroom and I asked the employee if the bathroom is open now and he answered "yes!" But when I went it was locked again. So I asked the cashier again. I let her know that I just saw someone coming out of the bathroom and that an employee let the man in. She spoke in her language again to her manager who was wearing a red shirt that said McDonald's TEAM! The manager said RUDELY "bathroom is not clean and not ready!!" Then both employees ignored me!! (SERIOUSLY) I kindly asked the cashier not to ignore me but because that was her manager she was following her lead! I felt her manager lacked customer service and most of all the "Aloha Spirit!" It should always start from our leaders that shows a good example! And why was it okay for a male to use the bathroom but not a female? Your bathrooms are that gross that you couldn't have it cleaned for your patrons when you open?? The worst experience at McDonald's ever! Rule of thumb...Don't open your doors if you're not completely ready! And note to manager, don't wear that shirt..YOUR NOT A...
