We were passing by here on our first day in Maui and all I saw was "cinnamon rolls"π Knew that more investigation was needed. Reviews confirmed that this was a stop that needed to be made and we were beyond happy that we did! Immediately greeted with the famous aloha spirit that made us feel at home right away! Stopped for breakfast and treats on our way to a pineapple tour in upcountry Maui. Ordered the ham&Swiss croissant and the locally made Italian sausage croissant- both were the perfect portion for a Goldilocks breakfast leaving you feeling just right! Got the King David cinnamon rolls and the tropical scones for late night/ next morning treats and they were both amazing! The cinnamon rolls had all the flavor you could ask for without all the heaviness some other places give you. The scones were also light and flavorful and went prefect with a cup of Maui coffee. We were reminded that pizza is served on the weekends and we knew that it would have to be tried also! On Saturday we ordered the Ohana Special on the way home from D.T. Fleming Park where we worked up an appetite boogie boarding and body surfing. To say that this pizza was the perfect end to a perfect day is an understatement. Sometimes toppings can get lost in the shuffle on a multi topping pizza, but not here. Each topping stood out and gave you it's signature flavor. The sauce also made it's presence known complimenting the fresh dough(which you can see rising while you're in line) perfectly. The food we had was enough to bring us back, but the icing on the cake was friendliness of the owners! They really make you feel that you're part of their 'ohana. We were so happy to find a locally owned business that served great food and had such welcoming hosts. Please support them while...
Β Β Β Read morePapi's Ohana in Lahaina is a bakery that's earned quite a reputation for its cinnamon rolls, often hailed as the best on Maui. As a first-time visitor to the island, I can't compare them to others, but I can confidently say they're worth the hype - and the wait.
These cinnamon rolls are a sight to behold. About the size of a dinner plate, they're generously frosted right before your eyes, ensuring maximum freshness and flavor. The smell alone is enough to make your mouth water.
Be prepared for a bit of a wait - there was a line when we arrived. However, the friendly staff and the anticipation of these famous rolls made the time pass quickly. It's clear why they're so popular; the taste lives up to the expectations set by their impressive appearance.
One word of advice: plan your visit carefully. We lucked out with the cinnamon rolls, but they were already sold out of cookies and scones. I've heard they often sell out of cinnamon rolls too, so arriving early in the day is your best bet to avoid disappointment.
The staff at Papi's Ohana deserves a special mention. Despite the constant stream of customers, they remained friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive experience.
While I can't claim expertise in the realm of cinnamon rolls, I can say that these were quite good - soft, gooey, and with just the right balance of cinnamon and sweetness. The generous size means one roll could easily be shared, though you might not want to once you taste it!
If you find yourself in West Maui and have a sweet tooth to satisfy, Papi's Ohana is definitely worth a visit. Just remember to get there early and be prepared to wait a bit. For cinnamon roll enthusiasts or anyone looking for a delicious treat, it's an experience not to be...
Β Β Β Read moreI write this with a sausage & cheese croissant in hand accompanied by a profound sadness that we soon wonβt be within a short 5 minute drive to THE happy place in our happy place that is Hawaii.
Iβm not typically one to enjoy cinnamon rolls (too sweet and not worth the calories) but these rolls from Papiβs have permanently ruined me for all future cinnamon rolls. The only reason why we didnβt come back 2 days in a row is because they close on Wednesdays. We sat down and ate our roll immediately upon receiving and it is heavenly. The roll maintains a slight crunch under the glaze and each bite has a balanced combo of cinnamon and sugary goodness.
We also got on visit 1 of 3 in a 4 day span 3 AMAZING croissants (this is having visited Paris the last year): ham & Swiss, sausage, and chocolate. We saved the chocolate croissant for the beach a few hours later with the chocolate slightly melted and it was PERFECTION. The exterior stayed crispy and my mind was blown.
We have since gone back twice for a more cinnamon roll as well as additional sausage croissant and chocolate croissant to bring back home.
Iβm convinced the baked goods here are made even better with the very sweet gal manning the cashier during all our visits. Her infectious smile and how she takes her time with each customer explaining their offerings each day was the cherry on top during each visit.
The line out the door is well justified as is their claim to the best cinnamon roll on the island. Canβt wait to come back during future trips...
