It’s a nice local coffee shop, I bet this location is of a high value to the locals. The baristas are very polite. That said, I will have to be objective and say that the beans served are quite subpar. Had 2 pour overs with my friend of different origins. Both were bland and hardly distinct. There was some kind of aftertaste, but, having tried many coffees, I have to say that this one could hardly be called a specialty coffee shop. That said, I bet it’s a nice location with decent coffee drinks (espresso drinks, iced lattes, etc.) for people to sit down and get some work done in a nice environment with a nice coffee drink. But pour over snobs and coffee enthusiasts will not likely appreciate the beans’ quality here.
I would suggest to the coffee shop to change the coffee roaster that is chosen as a supplier. There are plenty good ones around - you can serve Black and White, Cat and Cloud, or some other reputable beans roasted in the US. There are plenty reputable European and Asian coffee roasters that have established reliability and predictability in their quality. There is DAK, Manhattan Coffee Roasters from Netherlands, or Kurasu and Apollon’s Gold from Japan. To name a few. They don’t cost much more, if at all, but provide a much better drinking experience.
It’s just my opinion though, and I am still thankful for a cozy and friendly experience at the shop. I just really wish your coffee itself (beans) will...
Read moreThis is a promising space and has quality beverages and a nice aesthetic.
The only reason I have for marking it down a star is that there is a poor use of space, and form doesn’t always supersede function. As it’s popular and McKinney has a fair amount of community and foot traffic… people end up arriving early and camping for ages in the limited seating.
2/5s of the space is open floor with just empty flooring, which creates some openness in the space but at the expense of customers being able to pop in and sit.
I’d highly recommend arranging few things:
Arranging the space inside to fit another 5-6 tables to handle busy periods a little more effectively.
Communicate with landlord about the space in the back to determine if it’s possible to build a little seating area with a handful of cast iron tables to handle overflow.
Determine if it’s possible to put a table or two in the front sidewalk to allow both overflow as well as draw attention to the shop.
Chat with the church next door and see if it’s possible to overflow into their seating area as a last resort option.
I’m thrilled that McKinney has another coffee shop and one that has both quality beverages as well as space for community and work. I think with a few tweaks it can really maximize the opportunity for...
Read moreOriginally I gave this place a five star review, unfortunately, as time does, it exposed some major “weak spots” in this company.
Downtown McKinney is an absolute gem in our community. It’s a gathering place to promote togetherness, family, faith, and betterment of our community. Collective does not reflect these values.
In any business it is the staff you put in place that will make or break you. Collective has bullied, mistreated and demoted the very staff that once made this place something truly special. They also will threaten legal action against any one that dares to expose the hateful nature of their business. (And if I receive that threat myself, I will post it). Although, they also have reviews up right now from staff posing as customers, which just speaks to the “hidden nature” of this store and the people that run it.
The girls/guys that work the bar are mostly genuinely very sweet people that do hold the downtown McKinney values, it is my hope for them that they move on from this stage in their life and find a TRUE community that supports them as they grow in their passion of coffee.
With so many special coffee shops on the square I would urge you to consider taking your business to a place that truly values you and...
