Howard’s Donuts — Restaurant in Memphis

I finally tried Howard's donuts and I am so impressed. The reason I had not gone before is because I am 20+ minutes away, so it just wasn't convenient. I went about 1p on Tuesday, no one inside but drive thru was steady. Was happy to see the large selection to choose from. It was a hard decision, but I got the red velvet cake, the plain cake and the maple bacon. All of them were delicious. The bacon on the maple donut was perfectly cooked. I think it has a hint of glaze on it to make a sweet and savory taste. Definitely a must try if you haven't had one before. Red velvet was so soft and it just melted in my mouth. The cake donut is a fav and I think a perfect add when you are eating other donuts that are sweet. At home the next morning, I slightly warmed them for 15 seconds in microwave and then added some protein, (eggs) that i prepared! My husband had the apple fritter that he enjoyed. I took a bite. I bought 2 donuts, 1 was a plain cake and 1 cake with chocolate icing on August 3. First of all I had to ask for my receipt, and when I looked in my sack there was no white tissue paper to separate my donuts. When I got home to eat 1 of them, which was the cake with chocolate icing, I had to spit it out, the donut had a burnt taste. I ended up throwing both of them away. I had to get something to get the burnt taste out of my mouth. I am not sure what's happening at that location, but that never happen to me before, and I have been going there especially before Covid to get my donuts. I discovered this establishment about 6 months ago and realized I found a gem. Unfortunately, the last time I visited I placed an order for 2 dozen donuts. (I had family members in town and wanted to impress them). Although the older male employee who took my order and payment was not friendly; I still tipped the establishment. Once I reached my destination I realized something was wrong. ALL the donuts were stale, hard, and had a ton of toppings/glaze on the donuts. (I guess to conceal the lack of freshness).
