I want to give less stars but if it wasn't for the chicken and service, my whole meal would've been terrible. I ordered the 3 Wings with waffle with greens (turnip) & an extra side of black eyed peas. I wanted to order the mac & cheese, but it looked like an adult version of kraft Mac & cheese. I got my food in a timely manner. Tasted the waffle...typical waffle. But if you ever had Roscoes chicken & waffles, you would know the difference between a typical waffle and great waffle. Then I tasted the greens. I was already skeptical because I've never been to a place that just served turnip greens alone. It's usually collard or a mix of collard and turnip etc. The greens were left whole which was another different thing I've never seen before and made them a little harder to eat (almost like spaghetti). They lacked flavor, needed some smoked meat and/or seasoning. But not the worse thing. Then I tasted the black eyed peas. They were cold and watery (no flavor). I then asked the server if the peas were suppose to be cold (because you never know) she apologized and said no. I asked her to take it off the bill. She handled it great. The chicken was nice and crispy and had great flavor. I will say this is suppose to be a soul food place and not 1 person of color that works here. I wouldn't go to a Chinese restaurant if no Chinese cooks were in the kitchen....
Read moreI searched "food near me" and Miss Polly's was near the top of the list. It was also highly rated, which piqued my interest. I walked 5 minutes (or less) from the Peabody Hotel and walked in. I was greeted with a smile from the server and told I can sit wherever. I sat and began looking at the menu. I was interested in chicken and waffles, never had them previously. I ordered "the Willie". Two pieces of chicken, a side, and a waffle. I also ordered a Ghost River Gold from a local brewery. It was good. The food came out and at first I wasn't impressed. The pieces of chicken seemed undersized and the waffle seemed a little crispy. I spread the butter on the waffle and put on the syrup. My first bite of the chicken was very hot! What was I expecting? I started eating the waffle while the chicken cooled and was pleasantly surprised! It had enough integrity to hold the butter and the syrup while providing a tasty crunch and still being chewable. I enjoyed the taste. The primo part of the meal was the fried chicken. It was spectacular! I wish I had ordered the 16 pieces. I would have eaten most of them. The batter around the chicken was crisp and tasty. The meat under the batter was tender and delicious. I think this may have been the best friend chicken I've tasted! Friendly folks, good service, and delicious food all add up to 5 stars for me. Highly...
Read moreThe first time I ate here everything was great but yesterday was awful!first of all our server had a attitude or maybe she was having a bad day.my co-worker &i ordered the chicken&waffles with a side of mac and cheese..we waited for our food for a long time which is understandable given that the memphis in May festival is going on.but ANOTHER server brought our food to us ,the waffle&mac and cheese was cold which meant that it had to be sitting out for awhile.we had to catch our servers attention&told her that it was cold, sent it back.she came back with the same waffles and they were hard&crunchy, like she put them in the microwave too long..needless to say,we sent it back again.at this point she really started to show attitude so I asked for management..he took care of us but l told him that it's not about a discount,i want my service&food to be right,im paying for it.The server came to our table with our bill stating that she would've handled everything&that we didn't have to get her manager because "WE made her look bad?!!!"I was tempted to catch his attention again to tell him to come and gather his employee because at this point I was very irritated..I just simply told her no,you made yourself look bad bringing your bad service& a cold, crispy waffle to our table...I tipped the server who brought our...
