My husband and I had breakfast at the Waffle House that was across the road from our motel we were staying at. Very small restaurant limited seating, the lady at the counter welcomed us in, asked if we had carry out or dinning in? We say dinning in. She looks around and says I've got to chairs at the counter. We say we'll take them, we sit and my husband orders coffee and I get a water. He then orders the Grand slam which includes a waffle, two eggs, hash browns and choice of sausage, bacon or ham. He orders over easy eggs with ham. And I order a waffle with peanut butter chips on top. We are waiting for our food to arrive and when it does she brings him bacon and he tells her that he ordered ham she takes the plate with the bacon with her and brings him a slice of ham. She then brings my waffle and there are no chips on it. I say something and she cuts me off saying their inside. Okay, I pour syrup over it and cut the first bite and start chewing to find pecans inside. I look at my husband and tell him that I got pecans instead of the peanut butter chips. I call the waitress over and explain that I got pecans instead of what I ordered, but she says you ordered pecans, now why in the world would I order something I don't like? The only nut I like is peanut butter..she takes it to the cook who we can see cause this place is tiny and tells him I did order pecans. Now both my husband and I see her say this, I turned to my husband and say I ordered the PB chips right? He says yes hunny you did. She brings me, my plate a waffle with PB chips on top. And let me tell you all this was a delicious waffle. As we are finishing our breakfast, the couple who were sitting next to, got up and left. And a man sat down and the waitress hadn't had time to wipe off the counter yet. She comes over with her voice raised you sat at a dirty table, do you like eating at a dirty table??! We were embarrassed for the man, and my husband calls her over to ask her why she talked to him that way he is a human and should be treated as such. She is taken back, trying to justify her self by saying she doesn't like when customers sit at dirty tables. I joined in and said you didn't have to be so rude to him. It's just a table that needed two seconds to wipe off. She turns around to walk away saying mind your business.. well if we as humans minded our business other humans get treated like crap and some of us humans will stick up for those humans that don't have a voice. Be kind of a human God would be proud of...love not hate... All in all the food was great! Our waitress didn't pay attention to what we said when taking our order, and was extremely rude to the guy next to us. But, as being good humans we will give the Waffle house another try! Maybe the waitress was going through something and was having a day....we as humans don't know what another human is going through and until we walk in their shoes. Be...
Read moreTo those people that live in the south, "Waffle House" is a household name. They are EVERYWHERE. And with well over 2,000 locations, primarily situated in the southeastern part of the United States, this no-frills, greasy spoon, cholesterol induced comfort food has been filling up Americans since the 1950's. The location I am focusing on is located on Sycamore View Rd. in the east part of Memphis just a mile from Highway 40.
Since I was flying in from out of town, my hotel was in close proximity to this particular Waffle House. I came here on the evening of Friday, September 24th 2021 at around 10:00pm and was starving. Since the dining area was closed for the evening, I went to the walk-up window and placed my order. I ended up going with a breakfast platter that consisted of two scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, white toast (that included jelly), and of course their famous single waffle. Prices here are affordable beyond recognition; my whopping platter with a soda only cost me about $10 for everything. All my food was ready within a very quick 5 minutes.
Once I took the quite drive back to my hotel, I immediately was flabbergasted just how much food they give you here. Everything was piping hot and ready to be consumed. The eggs were cooked perfectly while the toast had a pretty hefty amount of salted butter prior to my spreading the sweet jelly over it. Bacon was greasy as expected as I assumed this stuff was cooked in lard. Hash browns were crispy on the outside with a soft texture on the inside. The waffle was fluffy and sweet and with their own house syrup, that only compliments to the added sweetness.
This place is true southern comfort food at its finest. I can only imagine the amount of calories, sodium, and cholesterol I consumed on this platter as it is not the type of food to be eaten every day (or in my case, at night). But for the price, portions, and overall taste of this classic American staple, I was definitely not disappointed. My rating for the Sycamore View Rd. "Waffle House" in Memphis, TN is a...
Read moreUnless you have at least an hour to wait and do not mind being robbed by the employees,do not patronize this location! Ashley is a thief! I ordered a breakfast which consisted of sausage, scrambled eggs with cheese, toast, hashbrowns, and orange juice.Total came up to $10.00 before tax.How was it that I was charged $13.34? Well, Ashley attempted to add it up after I repeatedly requested a receipt and she wrote$7.75 for the meal, $2.25 for the juice (which was warm by the way and no ice),$1.00 (tax or the to go fee?)for a total of $11.00, and she threw in an additional $1.23 for whatever reason. She then acted as though she did not know how to ring up or print a receipt, so another employee came over and refunded me $2.00.This entire ordeal from ordering to receiving my food and correcting the discrepancy took 45 minutes. The place was not even packed or busy.I usually tip well when I go to WaffleHouse but I won't be returning to this location. My first time and last time at this poorly run location and the owner should do a better job of screening and hiring employees.I can only guess how many other customers were taken advantage of..and lastly..Make sure you get a receipt and stay away from Ashley! Update: I went to this poor excuse of a Wafflehouse on 3/27/22 with a female companion from out of town. The sign on the door stated that the dining area would be open at 630am and we were there at 645am.The entire staff ignored us and other potential customers who wanted to use the take out window service.Completely unprofessional and ghetto.WaffleHouse upper management should drop in unannounced and witness this subparservice firsthand.I definitely won't...
