I had to go to the Verizon store in Mentor and did not realize that there was an East Coast Custard location there until I drove by and quickly asserted that we must turn around and go back for ice cream, well because their old-fashioned style ice cream and custard is incredibly sweet and irresistible! So my driver agreed (not that he had much a choice) but he was hungry anyway and also has a seriously healthy appetite for all things sweet, especially ice cream! This location is not quite as done-up as the original retro-style drive- location as in Middleberg Heights off of Pearl Road, it lacks authentic curb appeal and sort of blends in along with many of the other fast-food chain restaurants along the retail and dining strip off of Mentor Avenue in Mentor. This location also lacks as many flavors to choose from as the west-side location's store does. There is a daily menu that lists the featured flavors as well as the available flavors that are packaged in to go quarts in the store case, which also includes some delicious looking ice cream cakes, cupcakes and other delectable treats available for purchase there. Still, the selection is somewhat limited, but I do believe that those flavors available and featured are on rotation. I was not compromised by the selection, as I typically order a peanut butter and banana milkshake. It's one of the most wonderful things I have discovered in my recent years in the pursuit of amazing things you can eat or drink. The milkshake was just as incredible as expected and very appetizing. My friend ordered just a hot-dog, which I found to be a bit over priced. (Hot dogs are like $3.00, French fries are $4.00, and so are soft pretzels). I was a bit unsure if we were in an ice cream shop or at the movie theater because those prices seemed pretty high, but that is just my personal opinion... the price did not take away from the quality of the food, and my friend was very appeased with his order as I was with mine. I would reccomend East Coast Custard to anyone who loves ice cream - all locations have a drive-thru and a walk up window where you can place your order, this location had indoor and outdoor seating, the one on Pearl road just has an outdoor seating arrangement with several picnic tables in front of the establishment, with a drive-window option as well. I'm not sure if the location in mentor is open year round. I know for certain that the one in middleburg heights is only seasonal and usually closes sometime around Thanksgiving and re-opens just before spring. Still it's a great place to go with a friend and get a quick bite to eat or have some ice cream or a milkshake whether...
Read moreSo today is Saturday, February 11 went to Eastcoast custard in approximately 215 in the afternoon on the board they had a few specials vanilla, chocolate, chocolate caramel, sea salt, and café mocha, the way they had it on the board was a little concerning. I wasn’t sure if the chocolate caramel sea salt mocha was all one thing so I asked she said no those are two different kind of ice cream. I said I’ll take a pint of the chocolate caramel sea salt., when I came home, I had vanilla ice cream that was very salty with a little bit of caramel very disappointing , I proceeded to call and she explained to me this was yesterday’s special, and they were almost out, I explained to her again this was not chocolate ice cream. This was vanilla ice cream.! Upon many other times of ordering chocolate ice cream with pecan and fudge I could not even find the fudge or the pecans, I think I’ll be sticking with my Mitchell’s ice cream for a few Pennie’s more !!! You can get Mitchell’s at Heinen’s now. East coast is not what it used to be at $6.75 a pint for ice cream that you’re not even getting what they describe . Again very disappointing.! so salty. I...
Read moreOur family really enjoys East Coast! Before heading out for our treats we can check their website for the "flavor calendar", listed for each of the several locations around northeast CLE. Each day had several flavor options as well as vanilla and chocolate custard, which is served every day. There are options for dietary needs such as sugar free, frozen yogurt and regular old frozen custard. Sundaes, shakes, concretes, cones waffle cones and handpicked pints to go are available. There's even a special treat for the family dog called a "Pup Cup", which is a small scoop of vanilla frozen custard in a small bowl topped with a dog biscuit. Our dog Scooby always starts whining from excitement when we pull in. The Mentor location is open year round except for the month of January, when the owner heads south for a little...
