Chilaquiles Modern Kitchen — Restaurant in Mesa

We've dined at their first location off Ext and Southern. We were excited for their 2nd location to open because they're literally down the street from our home. Let me start off with saying the food there is amazing and this is coming from a Mexican myself. We stay away from eating Mexican food when we go out beause its never authentic and cooking at home is better. The cafe de olla is brewed perfectly to where it doesn't need creamer or additional sugar. When you're cafe de olla doesn't need creamer or sugar, you know that's bomb. Reason for the 2 stars was service was LACKING. We went in super early in the morning so they weren't busy at all. Our server got my husbands meal down wrong so he had to wait for his meal while my meal was already served. They sat us towards the back to the right near the restrooms. Servers waiting station is up in front. We felt forgotten a lot of times and at one point I had to walk towards the front looking for our server to request some things. Yall can't be forgetting about your customers you seat back there and it wasn't busy 😅 Another thing, I was looking forward to the breakfast molcajete but apparently their menus are different so it's not on there which was very unfortunate. Decided to try this place out for my daughter’s birthday brunch. Family, party of 13. The waitress brought our drinks but couldn’t even set them down for everyone. She stood at the front of the table and said can you pass these down and it was up to us to figure out who ordered what. I’m sorry, what!? It’s not even like she couldn’t walk up to the whole table, it was just extremely lazy. Forgot a few drinks, had to ask for refills. Food was ok. Part of the table was done eating before the birthday girl got her soggy mess of strawberry cream cheese on some rubber pancakes 15 minutes later. The waitress came to settle up the tabs with her handheld and had no form of receipt. Husband paid without even looking, and I’m assuming tipped on top of a gratuity which was not even mentioned nor did he see. 3 different tabs and pretty sure everyone tipped on top of the gratuity since she didn’t tell us. Very sneaky and unprofessional. She didn’t even return after the food came to clear any plates or get refills . Needless to say, Service was horrible but sadly she got a tip on top of the gratuity that she didn’t deserve. Not a happy customer, and it was our first time there after driving almost 30 minutes to the restaurant. We won’t be back, but maybe the other location...

I do not recommend this place if you are someone who has an infant who is unable to be in a high chair. The space is very small and hardy any room inside to move a stroller or even fit one inside. The food was cold and you could tell it had been sitting there for a while. I ordered a orange juice and it had a weird taste to it so i asked the waiter if i could get a different drink because my OJ tasted weird like kind of a rotten taste and she responded “that’s not possible it’s not made fresh” like girl I am the one tasting it i even told her you can try it if you want since she wants to call me a liar. I ordered the big papa breakfast and asked for huevos con chorizo for my eggs and she’s like i don’t know if we can do that and she kept making excuses why i couldn’t order that on my plate so i told her can you go ask if we can do that and in the end she said ok it’s just going to be a $5 charge for the chorizo which was fine. I just don’t understand why she had to go back and forth with me about how i could not order it like that. I have been to the location on Southern and the service was 10 times better than this one. My bad experience seems to mainly be because of the waiter we had, i wish i would’ve gotten her name. We will not be returning to this...
