Carbone is a Michelin Star Italian restaurant founded by Mario Carbone, Rich Torrisi, and Jeff Zalaznic in 2013 in Greenwich Village.. It opened in the spot in New York that was previously occupied by the 90 year old Rocco Restaurant, Carbone was modeled after the kind of mid century Italian restaurants that were popular in New York. Carbone is operated by Major Food Group along with Carbone Vino, Crown Club, Contessa, Dirty French, Dirty French Steakhouse, The Flamingo Grill, Hasalon, Parm, Sadelle's, The Grill, The Lobster Club, The Pool, ZZ's Clam Bar, and ZZ's Club. .
You will find Carbone Miami in the South of Fifth neighborhood in South Beach. it is located between two iconic Miami restaurants, Joe's Stone Crab and Prime 112. For the opening of Carbone Miami, Jeff Zalaznic moved to Miami and the owners partnered with local Alex Pirez.
Ever since Carbone opened in January of 2021, my friend and I wanted to come for dinner. We talked about it forever but you have to make a reservation a month in advance and I'm more of an adventurer who just eats wherever I land. When you make your reservation they ask if you want to dine inside or on the patio and then they take your credit card number and if you cancel too close to your reservation date you are subject to a $50 charge Some things are worth planning for however and we set a date and made it happen.
Parking in this part of South Beach is really difficult. After fruitlessly looking for a parking spot and getting stressed out we ended up valet parking. As soon as we stepped inside all the tension melted away. I love the opulent dark paneled walls, curtains, and elegant chandeliers. Carbone aims to please you and we were well taken care of from start to finish.
We discussed the menu before arriving and we had in mind what we wanted to order. Menu items are under the categories of antipasti, zuppa e insalate, macaroni, pesci, carni, and contorni, Popular menu items from New York include veal chop parmesan, octopus pizzaiolo, linguine vongole and a porterhouse steak. In addition to the Carbone standards a few dishes were created just for Florida like the scallop crudo with pistachio and key lime and stone crab knuckle sandwiches Prices are what I would consider expensive. For instance a veal marsala at $95 is the most expensive item but most courses are between $30 and $50.
As soon as you sit down at your table they start feeding you complimentary prosciutto, salami, two kinds of bread, marinated cauliflower and fresh cut Parmesan all of which were delightful. For our meal my friend and I decided to share their assorted baked clams prepared three ways ($35) and their famous spicy rigatoni vodka ($32). The clams were delicious but tiny and at $4 a piece maybe not worth it. The spicy rigatoni however was a revelation. The firm bite of the pasta and the slightly sweet sauce were swoon inducing. In between our courses the bread crumbs were removed from the table. We finished our meal by sharing a huge slice of the coconut lime chiffon cake ($19) that was created just for Miami Carbone. it wasn't overly sweet but packed with flavor from the lime curd in the layers. Complimentary Italian rainbow cookies were brought with our check. On the way out we made sure to indulge in a few of their Italian chocolates.
It was a lot of work to get to Carbone between the reservation, driving, and parking but I think it was worth it. It was definitely an experience I will remember. The restaurant is exquisite and the service top notch. All of our dishes were paced perfectly. I am glad I can finally say I...
Read moreWe visited Carbone Miami for dinner. After handing our vehicle to the valet, we entered the restaurant. The outdoor seating was ordinary and the weather was quite hot. We had made a reservation indoors and immediately noticed the truly impressive and beautiful interior decoration upon entering.
The velvet chairs and forest green upholstered banquettes in Carbone Miami’s dining room exuded a vintage charm, romance, and luxury. Additionally, the Murano glass chandeliers and globe sconces caught my attention as soon as I entered. The service was provided by waiters dressed in chic burgundy bow ties. Moreover, the music being played, which was jazz and similar genres, was very suitable for the atmosphere and carefully selected. After sitting at our round table, we realized that the inside was quite hot. When we asked our waiter, we learned that there was a malfunction in the ACs and they were not working. Of course, this situation is not acceptable in such a luxurious and ostentatious restaurant, and they should definitely have backups.
When it came time to place our food orders, we ordered Spicey Rigatoni Vodka pasta to share, even though it was a main course. We also ordered Caesar Alla ZZ (Caesar Salad), Eggplant & Zucchini Scapece, and Assorted Baked Clams for the table. The Caesar Salad was prepared on the spot at a special station brought next to the table by the waiter, creating a show-like atmosphere. The Spicey Rigatoni Vodka was much better than the ones I had eaten at other restaurants, and the sauce of the Eggplant & Zucchini Scapece was incredibly perfect. This sauce, which consists of a classic Italian recipe and includes tangy vinegar, fresh mint, and garlic, is actually simple but very aromatic, strong, and gives flavor to the eggplant and zucchini. Like the Spicy vodka pasta, it is beneficial to try this appetizer. The Baked clams were stuffed in three different ways. One stuffing was oreganata with purposefully soggy breadcrumbs, another one was with bacon and peppers, and the third one was stuffed with sweet sea urchin. Each one had a distinct and good taste.
For the main course, we ordered Ribeye Diana. This meat, cooked on charcoal, was extremely delicious and is definitely recommended for meat lovers. One of the people at the table ordered Fettucine Con Funghi and said he liked it, but since I didn’t taste it, I can’t express my opinion on this matter.
Finally, when we ordered dessert, our waiter came to our table with a presentation tray consisting of several different cakes. From here, we made our choice of carrot cake, chocolate hazelnut cake, and lemon cheesecake. All the desserts were delicious, but among them, I liked the Chocolate Hazelnut Cake the most and I think this is a “must-eat dessert”.
In conclusion, despite the AC malfunction, which is not an acceptable situation in such a resort, it is definitely worth visiting this luxury restaurant for its romantic and beautiful atmosphere, the pleasant, not-too-noisy jazz music, and the...
Read moreThe TLDR is visit Joes Stone crab instead. 10000% better service in every aspect. We are happy to spend $800 on a birthday dinner for 6 people but not with horrible and rude service. My parents, sister and boyfriend were in town visiting for my sisters birthday Memorial Day weekend and we booked Carbone a month in advance. Upon arriving we were all dressed very nice but my sisters boyfriend was wearing linen shorts with collared linen shirt - I had forgotten to tell them of the dress code (my fault and an accident). Staff was so rude and would not hold our table while he ran to Ross 1/2 a mile away to buy some dark jeans. Mind you some men were dressed in T-shirts and jeans which was a much more casual outfit but still the big stink made. They tried to seat us outside with storm clouds looming and good thing we refused because the people who did sit outside were dumped on within the hour and the awnings they had were not help. Carbone was finally willing to seat us while he went for pants I had my sister pull out her drivers license to show it was her birthday to encourage them to seat us. WE SHOULD HAVE LEFT after this treatment but still we continued with the plan because it was her birthday and I wanted her to have the best dinner. The Hostesses are horrible and dressed in trashy club wear that’s apparently appropriate. Our waiter was so rude upon seating us immediately told us we had to be ready to order for everyone and order within 5 minutes, constantly pressuring us about everything. He wouldn’t let us order appetizers while the boyfriend was getting jeans - everything had to be put in at once. The seating is so tight the waiter slammed my dads arm walking by with food trays. If you want to get up to go to the bathroom - good luck your going to be in someone’s way. If you want a Diet Coke be prepared to pay $7 for a tiny glass that is 1/3 of a Coke can and FLAT. I’m convinced they keep an open can of coke at the bar and only give you 1/3 of it because ice takes up most of the glass. They refused to bring me the Diet Coke can and let me pour it at the table into my glass so each one I had was flat on arrival and I stopped ordering them. Iced tea is $6 per glass … so $18 in tea for my dad. We’ve eaten here before but this weekend was just the rudest service. We ate at Carbone in Vegas last month for my birthday with my mom and dad and their service is amazing. MIAMI can learn from the VEGAS location. We will not be returning to the...
