Watching FREE movies here on an open lawn under palm trees is one of the nicest perks South Beach has to offer. While it's not a 100% perfect experience, it is truly special.
You should google soundscape movie miami beach to find the movie schedule - it helps if you're interested in the movie that's being played.
Citibank has sponsored this event for the past few years, and sometimes they'll pop free popcorn for movie goers. Be prepared to get there early (i.e. 7:30-7:45 pm) for popcorn (or a good seat), otherwise you'll stand in a long line. I recommend bringing your own food and beverages as most people do. We have outdoor picnics and it can a really nice night with proper planning. I've never seen anything off limits to the food that is brought - I've even had Pizza Hut deliver to the street corner for my friends and I!
Be prepared to go the bathroom immediately before you come here - if you're the type of person who cannot watch an entire movie without going to the bathroom then this won't be for you. They used to have super gross porta poties but I don't think they're available anymore and it's hard to find a public bathroom in or around the park. The building itself is closed at 8 pm.
Noise can be somewhat of a factor while watching your free outdoor movie. Sometimes there's disrespectful patrons chatting away. I usually simply and politely ask them if they can keep their voices down if it seems to be bothering more than just me or my friends. There is always a police detail parked at the top of the park which you can ask to monitor any unruly situations.
Be prepared to bring blankets and/or lawn chairs to sit on. Nothing is provided and pets are allowed, so you could be sitting directly in dog pee without. Some people bring these enormous chairs that are the same height as an office chair which can obstruct other people's views. This is annoying. I enjoy this even in those very low profile beach chairs that are often used to sit in the water.
I love this event and hope we have it forever. It's not available during the Summer months when it's hot, and light at night. And in May, sometimes they'll start the movie around 8:15 pm because it's too light to play any earlier.
I hope this info helps you enjoy this incredible free and wonderful experience in Miami Beach!!! Thank you to all the people who make...
Read moreHave went to several wallscape concerts put on by the New World symphony this year and what a great experience. The sound system is incredible and the videography is top notch. This isn't one guy with a camera but a full scale production with a variety of angles being shot, cut aways, close ups, you name it. The vibe is great with all kinds of different people gathering to enjoy the symphony. Lawn chairs, blankets, food and drink, it's all welcome. Several parking garages are next door so access is easy and relatively inexpensive especially since the wall cast shows are free! First class music under the moon with palm trees swaying in the breeze, it doesn't get much better than this. After the show the Lincoln road mall is just a block away with a variety of shops and restaurants, and Espanola Way is just a few blocks further and worth the walk for all the...
Read moreA wonderful experience. The WALLCASTs -- projections of the NWS performances inside -- in select weekends, and movies every Wednesday night. Went to the Tribute to John Williams event, which was followed by a screening of Jurassic Park. The quality of the sound that is "piped out" is awesome. Such a great setting for a picnic, music and family friends. Word to the wise, the space between the sound pipes is full of people that expect you to keep your kids quiet... And get very indignant. I respectfully disagree, and typically I invite them to ask for their money back (all $0) or upgrade to [pay for] a seat inside. I firmly believe that the WALLCASTs are an ideal way for awesome music to steep into the psyche of the young, while they play and chatter. And I'm absolutely convinced that MTT and Frank Gehry are...
