Couldn't wait to try out Dolly's. I kept on up on the reviews all over social media and wanted to go in open and optimistic.
Pulling into the parking lot and walking up the sidewalk you can tell they were in a rush to get it up and going. Walking in it felt like a very familiar place. Not much seemed to be changed aside from the big Dolly's sign behind the register. I think even the carpet seemed to be the same. It definitely felt like Frisha's still.
We waited just a short time to be seated. We were handed our menus. I read several reviews that stated there was no pricing. The one big stand out was how small the print was on the menu. Not sure why they decided to go so small of print. I did see pricing but didn't see any for drinks? No combo options that I seen but the burgers did come with fries I believe. No platter option unless you got a dinner.
The burger the "Signature" Right off the bat you noticed the sesame seed bun. Not really a fan of it but not a huge deal. You will also notice more beef for your buck! Definitely thicker. It was good but you can't top the original sorry! The sauce is the big question. Well for me it was a little thinner consistency and a little bit more tang too it. Overall the sauce and burger was good but not something I would crave. Trying to replace a legend you just can't. They probably should go a different direction with it. I wouldn't order the Super because it just didn't compare.
Next the Chili! I overheard the waitress telling the table next to us about it so I knew what I was getting into. First no beans! Instead you get fresh chopped onions and shredded cheese. I can live with that. Chili wasn't hot it was at the lower end of warm. It was the consistency of thick paste kind of like well out of a can you used to eat at college or after school before dinner. Coming in at $7 for a bowl definitely could of been better and then the cracks "Lance" brand not my favorite but it's alright. So lower level warm thick chili with no beans. I'll probably pass on it next time unless someone else is buying.
The fries! Sorry but it's a miss! If I wanted food truck fries I would go to a food truck. Just didn't have a great taste to them. Fries are fries in the end but nothing stood out. I think you could up grade to other options onion rings etc.
You can't leave with out desert. The hot fudge cake by a slightly different name was pretty good. Definitely bigger and badder. More of everything. Pretty close to the original maybe slightly different but it's chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream, and chocolate syrup with whip cream can you go wrong?
Price I know people said it was a lot so was the other place! It was pretty much the same price for my family of 4. With either place I never felt like the price vs quality was in line and that didn't change. But it is what it is. $77 for 2 adult and 2 kids. 3 deserts. So about the same.
Service was decent. Could of been a little better. The girl was friendly but could of checked on refills a few more times. Could of made sure the chili was hot. But otherwise it was ok. Not top notch but not bad.
I forgot the macaroni was a improvement from the other place. It was pretty good. Frisha's macaroni had went down hill.
Like another review said a lot of workers hanging out back smoking. I hope they do hold up to protcalls and wash their hands.
The final thought. It was good! Can't top the original but it can stand...

Decided to try something new since this place just opened. I know places might have some flaws being new but this was really a disaster.
Upon entry we were seated pretty quick. We were asked what drinks we wanted and also got them fairly quick. The place was very empty with more staff than customers. That is about the only good good. It quickly all goes down hill from here. We waited, and we waited, and all the staff seemingly disappeared. Tables were not being cleared, others were also waiting for food and service. We could hear what sounded like a large group of staff playing games and horsing around in the kitchen. This went on for 15 more minutes until a women who seemed to be the manager appeared and went into the back. It went silent and employees reappeared again.
We finally got service (only after people who were sat down after us got some) I wanted to start off with an appetizer sampler. They were out of fried pickles and onion rings I was told. How can they only be a week open and out already! So we ordered Mozzarella sticks. As a main I wanted pan crusted fish with a side of broccoli and rice. Guess what! Out of that and out of rice. Okay I asked what do you have? They have Loaded mac and cheese! Sounds good to me. I ordered that and wanted a side of their chicken tortilla soup. Also out of that, but they had beef and barley, a soup not even on the menu. I passed and asked about the salad bar. They said It was 5.99 EXTRA if you got a sandwich and 12.99 extra standalone. Okay I will pass on that too I guess I will get fries. My other party ordered a chicken sandwich with fries and no onions on it.
We then again waited 25 more minutes to get the food. When the food came it was some of the WORST restaurant food I have ever had. My "loaded" mac and cheese was demolished so hard by the microwave that the cheese had turned into an orange film on the pasta. The only topping were sliced up chunks of tomato from their salad bar and bacon bits from their salad bar. It has 0 seasoning at all. The tomatoes were also piping hot from the microwave and the plate was so hot the waitress dropped it on the table! The fries were horrible. They were dark brown and soggy with a sour taste. We did not eat the fries. Price for my meal? 13.99 and my drink was NOT included with the meal.
My other parties sandwich was good although she said her chicken was also clearly microwaved and the fries inedible aswell. Her sandwich was much better than my "mac and cheese" but her sandwich had onions on it when specifically it was asked to not be on it. The ketchup at the table was empty. Again how is it only 1 week open and have so many shortfalls like this? Also this entire time the dirty table next to us has not been touched. Oh forgot about the Mozzarella sticks. Well so did they because we never got them.
Overall a horrible experience and beyond expensive. I believe my total bill came out to be over 32 dollars for some really horrible innedible microwaved food.
I would...
Read moreFirst time coming to Dolly's 05/11/25. Thought let's give a try seems to be busy every time drove by. Placed our order, waiting a long time for it, not sure why the inside wasn't as busy as we thought it was. We first got our coleslaw, not sure who thought putting horseradish in the dressing for it was a good idea, but it was nasty. Finally our food came out, my daughters Bob's hot spicy chicken was lukewarm, as well as the fries. I order the famous Dolly chicken sandwich. The breading on both sandwiches was burnt, and part of the batter was raw. Not sure how can you burn it and still have raw batter? French fries were half done, cold and tough. You should learn not to over crowd your fryer and change the oil, the oil smelled old .Your tarter sauce, OMG that was worse than the coleslaw. Asked for another glass of water, all of our glasses came out pink in color. Noticed that several others had pink water as well. Glasses dirty, no one looking at them? Happened to notice several couples not even wanting to finish their food, this one gentleman had a burger and ate only about half of it and they even ordered the hot fudge cake took a couple bites of it and left it. This older gentleman had the same cake and pulled out white paper out of his mouth after he took a bite. Upon checking out some employee came up to ring us out, his t-shirt had food all over it, then give him the bill, never bothered to ask how it was everything. Only if I wanted the receipt. Wished I could put half a star for food, as a full star is pushing it. In all honesty it seems that you are paying people to park in the lot just so people think this place is actually worth trying. With this being a Big Boy owned operation this is sad that this is what you could possibly come up with as a replacement. At Frisch's at least we got food that was cooked properly and did not take that long to receive, they may not have had items in stock but they at least knew how to cook. It won't be long before this restaurant goes down the...
