Ever since I went to Cincy Crab, I hoped that a seafood place would come to the Dayton area so that I wouldn't have to travel to Cincinnati. It finally happened. Blue Crab Juicy Seafood opened near the Dayton Mall, so I had to give it a try. It is very spacious inside, with an upstairs area for large groups and it is well lit. They have a variety of appetizers and sides to choose from. Although their menu says they serve alcohol, they do not have their liquor license as of the writing of this review. The setup is pretty similar to Cincy Crab in that this new place also has seafood boils and they bring a bucket along w/ gloves and a bib for you to use.The presentation is interesting. When they bring the boil to you, it is inflated like a balloon, trapping the steam inside. They have 6 standard boils that you can order from but are welcome to create your own. The boils also come w/ 1 corn and 2 potatoes. Also there are different flavor combinations to choose from like Cincy Crab. I decided to go with 1/2 lb. shrimp and 1 lb. crab legs, with juicy special flavoring (combination of cajon, garlic butter, and lemon pepper), with a spice level of medium.
I liked the juicy special flavoring, but it felt as though something was missing, like it could have used a little bit of old bay seasoning or something else to give it more of a kick. The medium spice level was not too spicy at all. The shrimp tasted clean and fresh. I am not sure what waters they are pulling their crab from, but it was missing that sweetness I am used to with crab. Maybe the corn sucked up all the sweetness that should have been in the crab because it was really good. The overall flavor of the crab was pretty non descript. It definitely needed the help of the flavor combos. Although the crab legs were a good size, they didn't seem to have a lot of meat in them. It could have possibly been just this batch of crab legs, but I would go back for another seafood boil just to make sure. However, if given the option of going to Blue Crab Juicy Seafood or Cincy Crab, I would go w/ Cincy Crab. But, if I'm looking for some seafood in a pinch that is nearby, I would go...
Read moreHeard that this was supposedly the best place to go to get and try your first time seafood broil. Although I don't like seafood, I tried the catfish and wings and fries. We wanted to go somewhere NEVER EATEN AT FOR BIRTHDAY celebration for myself and my son, he had been wanting to try the place out merely cause it was recommended needless to say from our perspective it was an EPIC FAILURE!!!! The waiter we had is the ONLY reason for the two stars. The other two family members that went with us had tried it before and said when they went first time 2 yrs ago it was good and was shocked at how bad things had changed. From the food as well as the atmosphere overall, and couldn't believe how horrible the experience we were having was. Went in at 5pm original waiter forgot bout us we didn't get a new one until 40 min later simply cause we asked where did she go, the boils that they had they said was over cooked, my catfish tasted like it was Gordon store bought wings was fried so hard. Asked to speak to the manager, she was so unprofessional and rude, and the bathrooms were filthy and smelling told the manager and she caught another attitude and then complained loudly to another patron she knew that she was tired of us. It took an hour and 30 min to get bad food, a bad attitude, and 216.00 worth of NEVER AGAIN!! Heard its other locations but not ready to try and sit for 4 hours of another chance of dissatisfied overcharged service. I personally say if this is gonna be the first time try for you, I for sure suggest you DON'T STOP HERE YOU MAY BE LEFT DISSATISFIED AS WELL SMH...
Read moreAfter we drove West in the morning, we drove around and ended up south of where we live and ate dinner at Blue Crab Juicy Seafood, located behind the Dayton Mall. Even though they were not busy, it took a while to be seated. A customer walked by us as we were waiting for someone to acknowledge us and said, "You are in for a long wait." We were eventually seated. The waitress, we didn't get her name, but she was getting married soon, was very nice. She kept stopping by to make sure everything was okay. You can order already created bags of seafood, or you can create your own. You can pay by 1/2 pound, by pound, or the already created bags are priced differently. We both created our own. We had the same thing, shrimp, snow crab legs (one bunch), potatoes, I had corn on the cob, and Mark did not. I also had a bit more spice with mine. Yes, I did wear my bib and the plastic gloves they gave us so I wouldn't get the old bay seasoning on my wedding rings. Mark did not wear the gloves. We did not like the cheese bread. The cheese was not melted at all. $6 for cheese bread, I didn't eat mine, and Mark only ate half of his. That was disappointing. Also, there was a man walking around, cleaning off tables and doing other things, had his earbuds in, and was talking on the phone the entire time. The atmosphere was nice, and since it is in the old Max and Erma's, there is a bit of it remaining, which I appreciate. We have been to a few of these type of restaurants and...
