I stumbled upon this place while looking for some BBQ in the North Miami area. The reviews were phenomenal so I decided to check it out. After spending time in Atlanta, I am used to roadside BBQ places. Some of the best food I have ever had have come from these places.
This was a similar experience. You drive down this narrow road until it dead ends. There is a tent setup with some picnic benches and some fans. The smoker is tucked in the back and you immediately smell the food cooking. Basically, these guys just setup a "restaurant" right in front of their house. They make the BBQ outside, and the sides come from inside the house. Someone came up and took my takeout order. They started working on it and about 10 minutes later they handed me a bag with everything packaged up for me.
The staff were super friendly and nice. The atmosphere was different, but like I said, I am used to similar places. Just realize that this isn't a restaurant in the traditional sense. Also, they are only open on the weekend and may run out of items on the menu as the day gets later.
As for the food, I did a pound of brisket and a half pound of pulled pork. For sides I got the large mac and cheese plus some extra pickles. Everything was as advertised and so good! The brisket was cut thick and tasted great. The pulled pork was lean and full of flavor. The mac and cheese was absolutely addicting. I also really liked the sauces.
My go to BBQ place has been Hometown BBQ, but this place definitely blew me away and holds it own. Also since it is closer to me, I know I will be...
Read moreI was in the area and decided to try this place because of the ratings. I thought it was an actual restaurant until the google map sent me down a residential area. I was shocked to see a tent stationed on a dead end street directly in front of a home! I watched some customers eating under the tent and the BBQ looked good. So I decided to order the family meal for take out ($115.00). Which included 1lb of brisket, 1lb spare ribs, 1/2lb pulled pork, 1/2 chicken, 1 large baked beans,1large coleslaw, 1large Mac and cheese, 1 large corn bread. Extremely well packaged with accompanying BBQ sauces. The ribs were excellent with a nice smoke ring. the pulled pork was moist but a bit salty, the brisket was very good. And the chicken was excellent with a nice smoke pink center. (Not raw it's smoke) I recommended this place for take out you won't be dissapointed. The only reason I give it a 4 star instead of a 5 is because I found it a bit pricey considering the low overhead they must have. You can get a full rack of spare ribs for $24.00, very tasty but a bit pricey for spare ribs in a quasi restaurant. Other than that, the staff is extremely friendly and very accommodating. They only take cash or zelle payments unless you order online and pay with credit card...
Read moreThe term "hidden gem" can get overused, but in this case it definitely applies, just ask anyone who has had a meal from here. Some of the most delicious BBQ this side of texas can be found at this smoky oasis tucked away in the middle of North Miami. The usual BBQ fare can be found here, ribs, sausage, chicken. Everything well seasoned & slow cooked to greatness. You also have your side dishes, the cornbread was fantastic, and the mac & cheese was on point. The baked beans were the only thing that wasn't really to my liking, and it's probbaly due to me expecting a more traditional take on the recipe. The place itself is a bit small, & parking is one of the only negatives about Drinking Pig, as it's literally tucked away in a tiny alleyway. But if you're looking for some good ol' southern BBQ, this place should definitely be...
