My wife and I work on cruise ships so we were here the day before leaving and wanted sushi. This place was nearby and looked to fit the bill. It's a cute little plant with low ceilings and lots of customers, great energy and relaxed vibe. We were sat quickly and I ordered a hot sake. It came out steaming quickly. We ordered a bunch of stuff to share. Miso soup, ginger salad, tuna tartar, and salmon, tuna, and hamachi sashimi with a side of rice. Considering the amount of small plates we ordered, the pacing was perfect. A new dish came out each time we were finished with a previous one at the perfect time! The miso and salad came first. The miso was nice and hot, with soft cubes of tofu. Excellent! The salad was very fresh and crispy, and the dressing was so good you wanted to eat it plain! Next the edamame came. It has just the right amount of Kosher salt and was piping hot. The tuna tartar followed, and at first I was a little recalcitrant at first because I'm used to bigger pieces of the tuna, but this was almost like the consistency of the inside of a spicy tuna roll. It was awesome! Just a little bit of heat, and it was a very big helping! It came with crunchy cucumbers which when dipped in a little soy were the perfect instrument to pick up the tuna. Finally the part we most looked forward to, the fish! The salmon was absolutely incredible, soft, no fishiness, great texture, melted like butter in your mouth. The hamachi was equally good, with a little more but pleasant fish umami. It was especially good with lemon squeezed on it! The tuna was probably our least favorite, it was a little gel like, and didn't really have much flavor. That was the only thing we didn't finish. As an aside, the rice was also amazing, it has just s pinch of vinegar and I made a couple pieces of nigiri with it. We will be coming here before every cruise from now on!

Amazing spot for high-quality sushi. Options if you want to go the authentic route, but they also do american-style rolls very well. Lunch special with sashimi is the best. Hamachi melts in your mouth like butter and the salmon is perfection. Fresh harumaki is a must-do as well. They import a lot of the ingredients so the price is reflected in that. Hokkaido uni for example. So ignore complaints of “overpriced”. This is extremely high quality especially for the price. Do not expect frills and atmosphere though. People are often fooled that elevated design means quality food. Go downtown & eat at sexyfish if you want garbage sushi with amazing ambiance. Sushi chef is a super homey and warm place. Service was very attentive and friendly as well. Always impressed and hope they are here forever!

How did I not know about this place before?? It's so hard to find an authentic traditional Japanese restaurant in Miami, so I was so happy to find this place that actually has an actual Japanese Sushi Chef! They have a wide variety of traditional Japanese staples like oyakodon, chirashi bowls, udon, and soba. Everything that we ordered was delicious. The staff were friendly but not intrusive. Don't judge it by its appearance because the quality of the food will more than make up for the humble decor. Looking forward to when I come back!

Our company orders from this Sushi Chef often because our clients like their food. What they don't like, however, is that almost every time, there is food missing from our order. This is the first time I call the restaurant regarding missing items, and I only did because our clients keep commenting that they're consistently missing items (they decided not to order from there anymore). Today we ordered through Doordash and the Pork Gyoza and 1 of the (4) All Salmon was missing. I called the restaurant and the man I spoke to said that he personally checked the order himself and that it was all there, and that the only thing he could think of was that the Doordash driver stole the food. He was arguing with me that he had checked and all the food was there and said that it's not his problem, to take it up with Doordash. I am taking it up with Doordash, but it needs to be known that there is almost always something missing from our orders. I can't imagine that every Doordash driver steals our food. Also, whether or not it's their problem, that's not something that you should say to an unhappy customer that frequently patrons your restaurant. I was calling to see what can be done to resolve the problem, instead this man was cutting me off in mid-explanation, more concerned with defending himself. Completely...

This is my favorite sushi place in all of miami. This restaurant makes you feel like family from the moment you walk in. The waiters remember you even if you haven’t visited in months. The sushi here is the best i have had. No matter at what time you go you are sure to receive quality food. Last time i went they had a very expansive menu. They have great traditional Japanese fare and they even added a kids menu which my daughter quite enjoyed. There is not a single thing on the menu that i felt was sub par. My favorites are the sashimi, the pork ramen, curry soba, the shumai, the madeline roll, the ginza roll and the list can go on and on. In addition to the restaurant they still run the market so if you want to pick up some snacks or sake you can also do that here. You will not regret coming here it is just...
