Okay, so I’ve been coming here for a while, because the food is typically fine and the take out prompt, never eaten in house. But why the 1 stars then? Well, because tonight, 2/6/2020 as I write this, I have now waited over 2 hours for my take out. Ordered at 6:50pm, they said it would be all set in about 45-50 mins. Said okay, sent my partner who ended up getting there, paying for the food, being told it would be right out, and proceeded to sit there until 9:15pm. They watched as people were sat in the restaurant, orders eventually taken (some tables complained they had been waiting 30-40 mins just to put an order in), ate and left, while my partner still sat there waiting for our sushi take out. They watched as every other take out order left before them, orders that got there looooong after them, hours after them. They asked about the order several times. Evidently just one person working cash wrap and waiting tables, two people at the sushi counter. They gave them a complementary sake and beer, whoopdeedoo. Should have been a full refund and option to cancel, Mikado isn’t the only sushi place in Middletown, let alone the area we live in. We order take out to limit exposure, not so much partner could sit waiting in an exposure infested restaurant for not one, but two hours. I’ve worked in food service, and I understand being short staffed more then anyone, but then you turn people away or tell them a somewhat accurate time so they proceed with caution or go elsewhere. You don’t cater to in house prior to take-out, take-out is generally viewed as the easier money because no waiting the table, no bussing, less dishes, etc. I’ve ordered from plenty of sushi places that turn business away if they can’t get it to you in a realistic manner nods at the ever perfect Sushi Red. Literally had been ordering from here for a year during the week with no issues. First weekend we order here and it’s a fiasco. Likely won’t be coming back, it’s just disrespectful what y’all pulled tonight and it sucks. All it takes is one horrible experience to put people off forever.
*futher edit: partner just got back with the food. My sushi had wasabi all over it, and I...
Read moreMikado used to be great years ago but our recent few visits we’ve noticed the quality of food and service going down. This past visit with our two children has pretty much put the nail in the coffin that we will not be returning, especially when great sushi places like Niuda are so close by. Our waitress stopped by our table a total of zero times during our meal, she passed by us many times but never asked if we needed drink refills or if the food was okay, she only stopped once we were clearly done eating. We ordered plain yakisoba for the kids and it came out packed with cabbage so the kids hardly ate any. The waitress also seemed very confused and put off that we asked if it was possible to order a small thing of chicken katsu. My chicken dish was advertised to come with vegetables but came out with two pieces of barely cooked broccoli, one slice of carrot, and a bunch of uncooked onion and bell peppers. Not sure what happened to this place but it’s super...
Read moreBeen coming here for a long time however over the last several visits the service and quality has greatly decreased. Sometimes the food will be great but the service (either dine in OR take out) has been horrendous. Or, like tonight, the service was prompt and polite however the food was atrocious.
Tonight the sushi was flat and texture was just awful. My spicy tuna roll was neither spicy and I’m not sure it was tuna. A Spicy Shrimp & Kani roll was supposed to be included in my Spicy Trio however I was left with a dry and disappointing shrimp/crunch roll - I can’t even tell what it is supposed to be.
We used to absolutely love Mikado. A family dinner spot once a month. Now when my daughter suggests Mikado I prepare for disappointment. Such a shame what has happened to this once fine and premiere establishment. Thankfully there are many other options in the area and my daughter may be finally convinced to...
