This is a negative review for all of Cafe Rio, not just this location, but unfortunately you can't leave a review on the entire establishment. My boys always love the niño quesadilla, but my six year old recently has been wanting more food, so I started to order him the small quesadilla on the kids menu. I assumed it would be bigger than a niño quesadilla, plus with meat in it. Turns out it is exactly the same as a niño quesadilla... This is a big problem, considering the price difference. A niño is .79 cents. A small quesadilla is $4. You might think that the difference in price is due to it having meat inside, but no, if you want meat inside, you have to pay extra! So what are you paying extra for, Cafe Rio? Seriously, what the heck?? And this is not just a mistake from this one location, I thought that too, but have since had the exact same thing happen at every location I've tried. Just posting this as a warning to anyone who is considering a small quesadilla. Just get yourself a niño quesadilla and save yourself the irritation and disappointment. (The picture is a side by side comparison of both quesadillas. The top one is the niño, and the bottom one is the small. And I paid the extra money for there to be meat in it.)

I usually take reviews with a grain of salt. And Cafe Rio never disappointed before.... man I wish I'd glanced at the reviews for THIS cafe rio. The beauty of cafe rio is watching them making the fresh Tortillas and picking out your ingredients as they assemble your order. Apparently this location wants to cut cost on human personal and now has all kiosks. The kiosk is irritating and not user friendly. The few employees are overworked and because they looking at screens and not talking to the customers my order was wrong. The lobby is bare and doesn't really welcome you to enjoy your meal there. It's a Mexican restaurant and not a bottle of hot sauce in sight. And now they apparently want to charge for any of their sauces that in all the years I've frequented a cafe rio have never charged for. I will not be returning. And any other location that looks like the robots have taken over I will know to walk right back out and go elsewhere for my meal.

STOP!!! Do not go to this location. I have tried this location multiple times and have been disappointed and frustrated every time. I love Cafe Rio, but I will not go back to this location anymore. I have been charged extra for asking for rice instead of lettuce on the side of a Quesadilla. I have ordered a burrito with extra lettuce and pico de gallo on the side and in return got 2 small scoops of what looked and tasted like expired lettuce with what I think was the left over goo from the bottom of the pico de gallo tray. The burrito consist of mostly stale rice and barely any meat. It would be one thing if these problems were a one time experience, but at this location these problems have been consistent.

Don't use the drive-through at this Midvale Location OR better yet just go to a different location if you have a choice. The one star is specific to this Midvale location and the young man in the drive-through. About 2 weeks ago I pulled into the drive-through and asked for a burrito with half chicken and half beef. I was told $14 and change. I said I don't want extra meat; I want half of each type. The young man said my only option is to pay for extra meat. I explained that every other Cafe Rio has always done half chicken and half beef with no extra charge an I order this at least once every few weeks. Even this location did it for me after I ordered inside at the kiosk. He told me no and that I would have to pay for extra meat. I told him I'd go somewhere else then. He said, "Okay." I pulled back out of the drive-through and went to the Taylorsville location where they gladly fulfilled my order how I like it.

I have worked in food service and hospitality for many years. I don't know if the staff at the Midvale Cafe Rio are incompetent, lazy, or just plain rude, but it really isn't that difficult to put either shredded beef or shredded chicken on the ticket and then give me what I asked for. It's no surprise they are rarely, if ever, busy. That location has lost my business unless they fix things and apologize. I've also had the wrong meat on an order or missing items like guac when ordering at Cafe Rio locations with the stupid kiosk. When you order the old way, watching them make your food, you know it's done right. Fortunately there are still some locations with this layout. Based on the reviews here and my own experience, I'd give the staff at the Midvale location a serious training on customer service and if the young man in the drive-through does this again, he'd be out of a job.

I reached out to the email addresses that Cafe Rio is leaving on these reviews, but they didn't respond, so I decided to...

I stopped by this location for my first time yesterday. When I walked in, I instantly became confused. You now have to place your order on a kiosk. The part that was frustrating was that you can't add comments for any type of requests. I ordered a pork salad. I wanted to have my beans drained, as they make the salad soggy. I tried to get help, but only one person spoke English. He walked over to help me, but he kept walking away to help customers in the drive thru, as well as walking outside for curb orders. After I placed my order, I had to wait for quite a while, as they were working on curbside, and delivery orders first. I saw an order come in while I was waiting. Instead of getting my salad ready, that order was done first. When I got home and opened my salad, it was extremely soggy. There was one blob of pork, and the rest was mainly beans. The girl that put my order together, didn't snap the lid on tight, so the dressing spilled all over in the bag. Because of the salad being wet, the mess with the dressing, and no pork, I tossed the salad in the garbage. I don't eat out often, and I am not one to complain, but that was $15 completely wasted. I wish I would have taken a picture to show the mess, but I was pretty frustrated and just threw it away. I can say the gentleman that was there was friendly, but that is the only positive thing. Cafe Rio used to be one of the best restaurants around. I don't think I will eat there again, as this situation has put a bad taste in my mouth. 😞 This is an edit to my post. I just read some of the other reviews. It seems like the issues that people are commenting, have NOT been addressed whatsoever. Some of the same problems have been going on for over a year, and nothing has changed. The only response from the owner is the same with every comment. This is an absolutely horrible way to run a...

I was in a hurry tonight trying to make an appointment so I went through the drive thru. When I pulled up, they came on the intercom and said their drive thru was closed and to come inside. There probably should have been a cone blocking it, or at the very least a sign. I thought about just going somewhere else since I was in a hurry but I knew if I didn’t get my kids their “favorite quesadilla” I’d have a mutiny on my hands so I parked and went in. They had 6 ordering kiosks. I walked up to one and placed my order. It asked for payment then said there was a card reader error and canceled my whole order. So I entered my order again and was met with the same error. I guess the card reader wasn’t connecting to the kiosk. So I moved to the next kiosk, which was frozen… so I moved to the next and was able to finally place my order (1 kids meal and 4 niño quesadillas). I should also note, I tried to scan my app to get points for my visit but the scanner didn’t work on the first kiosk and by the time I got to the third kiosk I was in such a hurry I didn’t try scanning. After a few minutes they called my name and I grabbed my bag and ran, since I was now late. In my haste I failed to realize that they did not give me the drink and side of fruit that comes with the kids meal. So now I’m late to my appointment and without a big part of my order. And I didn’t get any points. Very disappointed.

I should also mention the last time I went here, I ordered myself a pork salad and the lettuce was wet and shredded so small that it looked like it had been eaten and spit back out again. I was unable to eat the whole thing. It was...
