To be fair I had fond memories of eating her when I was a kid and my current experience may be flavored by that nostalgia. I remember this being the best BBQ I ever had and I'm sure my tastes have evolved in the 15 years since I ate here last so I am giving this place the benefit of the doubt. The meat (brisket in my case) was just ok. It was well cooked but crunchy. The bun was soft to soggy but managed to hold together alright. The portion size is abit less than I would expect for the price and the quality doesn't quite make up for that discrepancy. The service was friendly and reasonably prompt. I could see having a 30 minute lunch break here. Personally, I am a fan of the sauces. Brushfire is my favorite and I would gladly order a bottle of it and their Original BBQ sauce online....but I would make better brisket myself at home. I give this place a B overall. Maybe it was always this way and I have fond memories or maybe it has slid down in quality over the past 15 years, either way this place is still worth stopping for.

If you're looking for an authentic American bar in town, Gahanna's is a textbook restaurant! From the crispy fried chicken with its secret sauce to the hearty side dish platters that are a must at every table, every bite hits the “comfort food” spot. At $20 per person, the restaurant manages to combine portion size with quality - the $24 Neil's Set Meal is big enough for two. The team led by veteran Agar is the highlight, with Kesha and Monty serving like old friends, and even the placement of the sauce bottles showing the tacit understanding of a decade of experience. The cornbread is a little dry, but in the air of wall-to-wall photos of regulars and blues music, this regret instantly melts away as part of the rugged American flavor!

Went with a group of friends. Been to various City BBQ locations lots of times. This one is conveniently close to the nearby Glow Putt. Overall a very good experience. Main negative was that my brisket was cool/room temp. But the beans were good and heated. Others said their chicken was plenty warm enough, if not hot. Our table needed cleaning, and the one trash bin near us was overflowing, but someone did empty it while we were there. Plenty of tables and no wait for that, but there was a line to order and took a few minutes but moved quickly. Overall the food was good and the place was pretty clean and well kept. I'd recommend going and would go again myself.

UPDATE: Management reached out of to us regarding my previous review and wanted to make it right. They apologized and agreed that our experience was not up to their usual standards and they thanked me for the feedback. They offered a full refund OR a credit amount to our Rewards Program so that we could have our next meal on them. We opted to take the $$ loaded to the rewards program...in order to give them another shot at getting it right. We ordered carry-out last night and I felt the need to update my review because the meal was excellent! It was the City that we loved! My husband tried the new(er) Chipotle sandwich and said it's now his new favorite. I got the half chicken and side and all I can say is it was an excellent dinner and we'll have an excellent lunch w/the leftover chicken. Well done, City BBQ and thanks for taking the time to reach out to us and making it right. City is back to being my husband's fav and they get 5 stars from both of us for the meal! Thanks!

A year or two ago I would've given all 5 stars because we USED to love City BBQ. It used to be my husband's fav and everyone in the family knew it so it was their go-to when they got him gifts - City Gift Cards. Unfortunately, something has changed at our Gahanna location in the past year - year and a half. We have not had even one order that didn't have some sort of problem w/it. In the beginning it was missing food from pickup orders and/or instructions not followed on orders (like no onions on salads)...but the past 3 order have also had issues w/the quality of food. I have not wanted to do a review up to this point because none of the issues were "put us off the place forever"...they were just very disappointing and/or not up the level we had grown accustomed to over the years. We could still eat the food (or go back and get the missing items)...things just weren't as good as they used to be. I chalked it up to maybe we got a new hire and they were learning...or we can all have a bad day sometimes...something along those lines. However, as of last night...I feel the need to share because last night was the worst experience we've had to date. My husband ordered the Lolo's (had always been his fav of favs!) and he found not 1...but 2 pieces of bone in the pulled pork sandwich. It's bad enough when you bite into a sandwich and hit a bone but to find 2 bones in one sandwich? Nah. He ended up throwing it out. I have cooked plenty of pulled pork myself and, sure, sometimes a little bone might slip thru but to find 2 good sized bone pieces in 1 sandwich?...nope...this is just carelessness on the part of the person doing the "pulling". We also ordered the wings and they were absolutely inedible. Not only were they burned up and basically leather (the outside was almost plastic-y they were so hard and burnt up!)...but they were so salty that I don't think anyone could eat them. I know I couldn't. An order of 12 wings expected to be shared by my husband and me...in the trash. And if all of that wasn't bad enough...the fried pickles were soooooo greasy...to the point that they were swimming in grease in the little basket. And yes, I know fried pickles can be greasy and can get a little soggy in transit w/pickup but they looked like someone had thought grease would make a good gravy in the basket. Soaked in oil, rather than fried, maybe? Gross! Bad, just plain bad and a total waste of nearly $35! It's hugely disappointing when you spend hard earned money and then you find yourself pouring a bowl of cereal for dinner because the food you just paid for is in your trashcan. My husband is now mourning the loss of his fav place to get food but we have decided we will not be buying our trashcan anymore meals. Sniff, sniff. RIP The City BBQ of...

I have been going to the place since i moved to Gahanna and watched it slowly go downhill, usually I am very understanding working in the industry but my experience here tonight was very unpleasant to say the least. After a long wait, the cook realized I was still standing there and had not gotten my food. Someone had apparently bumped it off the screen without making it, and she was the one who noticed. So after a long wait, I am then told that they don’t have the sauce I wanted (the whole reason I come here). So I told them if they didn’t have any, I just wanted a refund because it was the whole reason i eat here. Lady who started the refund, seemed very short no apology’s were ever said, and I asked do u not have any of the sauce in the bottles? I would be more than happy to purchase it or pay for part of it or something? So finally they just ended up giving me a bottle of the sauce and I thought all was well. Get home after a long shift at work, go to unpack my bbq and make me a sandwich to find my family pack has NO MEAT in it whatsoever! Like I said before I am usually very understanding because we are all human and make mistakes but this burnt right through me because there was four people up from taking orders and bagging them, well actually one would periodically take an order while a young girl hung all over him sipping on her tea, and one was trying to bag things but didn’t act like he knew what was going on and I am not really sure what the other girl was doing. Like i mentioned before the only person who was truly working was the cook! They deserve a raise! A little supervision would go a...

So good. I got the judge sampler and peach cobbler. I want to start by saying the portions are very generous. I barely put a dent in either the sampler or the peach cobbler. I can easily get 3-4 meals out of this.

But quantity is nothing without quality, and they certainly have the quality. The brisket, pulled pork, chicken, and ribs were all delicious. Everything has this very nice smoked flavor, and it was all so so tender.

Let's not forget the peach cobbler. I got it on a whim, it sounded good, but I wasn't expecting much. Let me tell you, don't sleep on this! Excellent fruit to cobbler ratio, not too sweet, and just right.

Ok, let's talk pricing. I got a lot of food, but the pricing was fair at around $35. Considering how much food I have leftover, I'm ok with that. Seems to be in line with other BBQ places nearby as well.

Last stop, service. I will start by saying everyone wore masks and kept them on, big positive there. The young woman who took my order was very nice and efficient. It took a while a to get my food, but it wasn't for lack of trying. The lads in the back were slinging food as fast as they could. And the gentleman packing the food and double checking orders was working furiously. I would have liked my food faster, but I can't see how that would have been possible with the shear quantity of orders up.

So, will I be back? For sure! There is something about City BBQ that is like comfort food. And in the days of Covid-19, that's exactly what I'm...
