I love Whit's. If you are looking for a frozen treat this is the place to come. They only have frozen custard, (think ice cream but smoother and creamier) and a few hot food items, but they are all delicious.
Their flavors are limited, each week they have 2 flavors of the week which are listed on the sign out front. They also always have chocolate and vanilla. It's not cheap, but it is good quality and one scoop is huge, especially in a waffle cone so the value is good as well.
You can get their custard in a Whitser with various items mixed in, in a sundae, or even in a dirt sundae for kids complete with crumbled cookie dirt and gummy worms. They have other options as well but honestly the classic waffle cone is my favorite option, so I rarely deviate.
In the hot food realm they have hot dogs, with basic fixings or shredded chicken sandwiches. The hot dog is your basic steamed hot dog. My son loves them, I have never had one. The shredded chicken is my go-to. It is loaded with chicken and enough black pepper to have a slight kick, but is really tasty and very reasonably priced.
Today my son and I had a hot dog, chicken sandwich, dirt sundae, 1 scoop in a waffle cone and 2 bottles of water for just under $14.
There is no inside dining at this location, but there is plenty of outdoor seating or you can order through the drive thru. If you walk up to order, you place your order at the window on the right and then they will give you your items through the window on the left. It will take a few minutes for them to get your order ready especially during peak times, so plan on being patient. It is worth it, trust me!
Check out their website to see their weekly flavors in advance, or just wing it and try whatever they have. Remember, even if the weekly flavors don't strike your fancy, the chocolate and vanilla are great...
Read moreMy personal experience with this place is a joke. I'm from this town, grew up here. But I've never taken a liking to custard. Nonetheless, my daughter got her first job here about two months ago. She was so excited and proud. She was getting there early, volunteering to stay late to help finish up. She picked up shifts when she could, she was excited to have this responsibility. Unfortunately she made a last minute ( 10 day) decision to go to homecoming. She saved enough money to buy the things needed and was so excited to go. Her availability when hired was open on Saturday. But when she spoke with the supervisors about needing the time off, she was not dealt with kindly. And as a mom of three teen girls, I did not appreciate or approve of the way my child was handled. They fired her via text for a no show that hadn't even occurred. And the owner Chip is rude and disrespectful. As you can see from his replies to other patrons. I don't want my child working for this man. And the young people running the store are just as nasty. This is the type of environment that is being fostered and it's toxic. And to face the facts, the custard is...
Read moreWhit's is really great stuff, no doubt, but I would really like to suggest that this location incorporate the ability to do items in a dairy-free manner, like the Whit's in Hilliard does. Hilliard has the vegan ice cream scoopable (not just in pints) and also offer dairy-free almond milk to use in shakes. Because of this, any item on Hilliard's menu can be made dairy-free.
We came to the Gahanna Whit's hoping for the same, and I was bummed to watch my husband eat his and myself leave empty-handed. I even tried calling to ask first, but no one answered - so I did try I swear! I want to support small and local, please let me! :)
We live near Westerville so it would be amazing to not have to haul it over to Hilliard just to get DF ice cream treats. Pretty please!
EDIT: Thanks for the update, Chip. For anyone else interested, currently Westerville's Whit's does NOT offer vegan ice cream in scoopable - pints only. We tried there on a previous occasion as well. Will give...
